Abstract

1,270,452. Powder distributors. ATLAS COPCO A.B. 21 April, 1969 [26 April, 1968; 14 Dec., 1968; 14 Jan., 1969; 27 March, 1969], No. 20345/69. Heading B2F. Apparatus for spraying articles with powder from a powder-gas mixture comprise a spray gun 1 with an inlet 3 for a powder-gas stream, stationary vanes 9 shaped and located to impart a whirling motion to said stream, and a Venturi system 12 through which said stream passes adapted to accelerate the powder particles. A further inlet 7 for a supply of additional gas and a further Venturi system may be present. An electrode 15, 16 connected to a high voltage source may be present to effect charging of the particles. The Venturi 12 may have an axis inclined to that of the powdergas stream supplied, and the gun may have a tubular nozzle with holes in the walls thereof allowing at least a part of the gas to escape sideways, or the gun outlet may be provided with a jet-shaping baffle which may act as electrode. At least part of the powder-gas conduit may be coated with abrasion-resistant material, e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene.
