Abstract
1413624 Liquid fuel atomization ACIERIES REUNIES DE BURBACH - EICH - DUDELANGE SA 26 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 4243/73 Heading F4T A liquid fuel injector, e.g. for a blast furnace, has a central fuel chamber 330 with a concavely curved inner wall and an outlet 340 at one end, a jet 320 having formed therein channels 321 opening out in directions eccentric to the main axis of chamber 330 and oriented against said inner wall on the downstream side of jet 320 so as to form a sheet of liquid fuel on said wall when said liquid fuel is supplied to said jet, nozzles 331 which debouch into chamber 330 and have axes tangential to said wall and inclined away from jet 320 so that nozzles 331 can supply gas in order to reduce said fuel sheet to a thin film on said wall and to accelerate said thin film on said wall in a substantially helical path therealong, and means 220 for supplying a fuel atomizing pressure gas to the downstream end of said wall obliquely to, and converging upon, the near direction of fuel flow through outlet 340 for atomizing said thin film of fuel. The atomizing gas may be air, oxygen or a fuel gas and is supplied by annular conduit 200 to an annular outlet 220 via ducts 211 which swirl the gas in the same direction as the fuel swirl, the flow through outlet 220 also aiding cooling. The size of outlet 220 may be adjusted by relative aerial movement between walls 100 and 300. Conduit 200 may also supply nozzles 331, or nozzles 331 may be separately supplied with gas having the same or different composition to the atomizing gas. The chamber 321 may have straight or helical axes and circular or U-shaped crosssections. The injector may be used with extra heavy fuel oil preheated to 110 C.
