Abstract
1519958 Tilting vehicle headlamps LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 30 Sept 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 45136/74 Heading F4R A vehicle headlamp tilting mechanism ineludes an element 13 sensitive to the attitude of the vehicle body relative to an unsprung part and connected by a resilient arm 14 to a pivotable shaft 15 which is restrained by a second resilient arm 16 abutting a stop 17. The shaft 15 also carries a pendulum 18 on an arm 19 which is connected to a rod 20 forming the mechanical input of a first transducer 21 having an hydraulic output along a pipe 26. This output is transmitted to a second, similar, tranducer (not shown) having an hydraulic input and a mechanical output arranged to tilt the headlamp. As shown, the element 13 is a wire with an outer sheath, and the first transducer 21 comprises a bellows 24 responsive to movements of the rod 20 in an hydraulic cylinder. The first transducer may drive two headlamp-tilting cylinders via the pipe 26. In a further embodiment the cylinder 22 is partitioned and is movably mounted on the vehicle body 10 by a second bellows and rod arrangement (Fig. 3, not shown). The pendulum 18 is responsive to acceleration of the vehicle and acts directly on the rod 20.
