Abstract
1508573 Automatic control LUCAS ELECTRICAL Ltd 1 April 1975 [22 Feb 1974] 8109/74 Heading G3N [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] In a system for automatically tilting vehicle head-lamps 15 about a horizontal axis in response to changes in attitude of a suspended part of the vehicle, the tilting is effected by a reversible electric motor 19 controlled by a control circuit to which the electrical outputs of at least two transducers are fed, one output being representative of the angular position of the head-lamps, the other the angular position of the suspended part of the vehicle relative to the road and being derived from inductors 13, 14 variable by movement of the front and rear suspensions respectively, said inductors being connected in series but varying in opposite senses to compensate for movements not involving changes in attitude. Head-lamps 15 are mounted on a common shaft to which crank 16 is fixed and output arm 17 of actuator 18 which tilts the head-lamps under the effect of motor 19 also indicates their angular position to provide a corresponding output from potentiometer 20, or from an inductive transducer Fig. 4 (not shown). The control system is shown schematically in Fig. 2, the circuitry being detailed in Figs. 3a, 3b (not shown).
