1500141 Latches HOOVER Ltd 27 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 04336/74 Heading E2A The lid of a spin dryer or like rotary device is secured by a latch which is decoupled from its release handle until the rotation has ceased. The lid 11 carries a keeper 16 by which it is secured by a latch arm 20, 21 pivoting about spindle 22. The latch bolt is itself latched in a retracted position. Fig. 1, by a spring arm 24 until closure of the lid causes the keeper 16 to press it down so that the latch arm 20 can move forward to secure the lid. The latch is released to open the door by sliding a handle 32 (mounted on plate 31) upwards. However, this movement depends on coupling between the handle plate 31 and a plate 41 which is linked to the latch by lever 45. This coupling is provided by a Bowden cable 35, but only when its inner 34 and outer 36 are rendered mutually immovable by a ball 50 blocking movement of the other end of the cable inner. This only occurs, Fig. 1a, when cessation of the rotation of shaft 53 allows the ball to roll back from position 56 to the position in which it blocks the movement of rod 51. Movement of the plate 41 also operates a cut-off switch 60. A modified mechanism is described in Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown).
