Abstract
1401931 Coating wires INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 19 July 1973 [24 July 1972] 34459/73 Heading D1L [Also in Division H1] An elongated electrical conductor e.g. a wire, is insulated by depositing pulp fibres thereon from a slurry and passing the coated conductor through a rotating die for wrapping the fibres around the conductor. The conductor may be coated with adhesive prior to deposition of the slurry or an adhesive may be included in the latter. The fibre coated insulator may be overcoated e.g. with an acrylic latex. In the embodiment shown wire is taken from roller 1, and guided by rolls 2, 3 and 4, to an adhesive coating station 5, from where it passes to a slurry-applying station consisting of a slurry dispensing nozzle 8, a slurry reservoir 9, a mixer 10, a pump 11, and an excess recovery zone 12. After application of the slurry the wire passes through squeeze rollers 14, and via feed rollers 15, through rotating die 16 powered by motor 17, and speed control unit 18. The slurry coated wire then passes through guide rollers 19, which damp the vibrations produce therein by the rotating die 16, through a coating bath 20 of an acrylic adhesive and subsequently through a tunnel drier 21, heated by hot air, before being collected into rolls by driven take-up roller 22.
