Abstract

1391356 S-Z twisting FELTEN & GUILLEAUME KABELWERKE AG 26 June 1972 [30'July 1971] 29880/72 Heading D1T [Also in Division H1] A method for the S-Z stranding together of srands comprises supplying the strands at a constant supply speed and stranding the strands in a strand head rotating at constant speed and in a constant direction, the length over which the stranding takes place upstream of the head being periodically increased and reduced at a speed which differs from the supply speed. The speed of change of the stranding length may be less than, and may be in constant proportion to, the feed speed. As shown, Fig I, strands I are stranded between dies 5 and 8 by the rotation of head 7 about the axis of twisted strands 6. Die 5 ie reciprocated towards and away from the head. In the head, Fig 4, the twisted strands are passed about pulleys 9, 10 and 13, and about concentric pulleys 11, 12. The strands may be electrical conductors. A plurality of such stranding devices may be used, driven by a common motor, in series or in parallel.
