1326610 Knitting machines G BILLI & C SpA 12 Nov 1970 [21 Nov 1969] 53796/70 Heading D1C A parallel knitting machine has a fabric tensioning arrangement comprising two stems 110, 112 mounted on plates on the carriage and extending in opposite directions and means for bringing the stem which points in the opposite direction from the direction of movement of the carriage into operation below the zone of intersection of the needles at the start of each working stroke and for removing it at the end. Members 10, 12 with stems 110, 112 are slidable in dovetailshaped grooves perpendicular to the direction of movement of the carriage and formed in brackets carried on plates 9 of the carriage between two positions determined by the engagement of spring-loaded balls 14 in depressions in plates 9. Balls 14 and their associated springs are mounted in members 18, 20 which are engaged by cams 22, 24 and 28, 26 respectively to move the members 10, 12 to their lower and upper positions respectively. When in their lower position stems 110, 112, 10, 12 project into the space formed between needles of the two sets when they are in their uppermost position to engage the article being knitted and stretch the loops still on the needles. In another arrangement, blocks 129 are mounted on brackets 127 secured to the plates 123 of the carriage and have grooves 131. Mounted in each groove is a member 135 carrying a support 137 to which is secured stem 139 for pressing down the knitting. Member 135 is rotated by a rack and pinion arrangement and its movement is limited by a pin and slot.
