Abstract

1,228,481. Respiratory appliances. NORMALAIR-GARRETT Ltd. 14 March, 1969 [1 April, 1968], No. 15515/68. Heading A5T. An oxygen-air diluter 10, including a diaphragm-controlled demand valve 12 with an injecter nozzle 15, has a constricted duct 23 connecting a chamber 20 surrounding an extension 19 of the nozzle 15 into a chamber 18 on the upstream side thereof to a pressure sensing chamber 11, in which is exposed one side of said diaphragm and which is connected to outlet duct 13 via a suction duct 22. The constriction of 24 of the duct 23 may be an adjustable bleed screw. An axially movable mixing tube 21 operated by a rack and pinion 40 is disposed in duct 13, which may be used to shut off the air flow through the inlet 14. A spring 16 urges nozzle 15 to seat against an annular projection extending from the wall of duct 13. The air inlet 14 may be closed barostatically by a member 39, at a predetermined altitude.
