Abstract

1,133,912. Liquid cooled cylinder heads. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. May 18, 1967 [June 1, 1966], No. 23032/67. Heading F1B. A cylinder head comprises a coolant cavity enclosed by upper and lower walls 42, 44, Fig. 4, inter-connected by a substantially cylindrical peripheral wall 40, gas flow passages 28 Fig. 2 which extend through the cavity and lead from the peripheral wall to valve ports 30, e. g. exhaust ports, regularly spaced about a central tubular member 48 which is spaced from passages 28 to permit coolant to flow between the passages and said member. The member 48 forms a holder for a fuel injector. The wall 40 has formed therewith bosses 64 for the cylinder head bolts, between which bosses are formed bores 70, 76, through which coolant from the cylinder jacket enters the cylinder head cavity in a direction parallel to and near the surface 40. The air change enters the cylinder through piston controlled ports (26, Fig. 1 not shown).
