Abstract

1,126,364. Air mattresses. UNIROYAL Ltd. 18 Oct., 1966 [18 Oct., 1965], No. 44104/65. Heading A4M. An air mattress has a pair of separately inflatable chambers 2, 3 along opposite sides of a base 1 each chamber 2, 3 being of triangular cross-section with its top wall 7 downwardly inclined towards the mattress centre and the inner side edges 13, 14 of the chambers 2, 3 being curved to converge towards the head end of the mattress. The chambers comprise walls 1, 4, 5, 7 joined together by strips 8-12 and 15, 16. The chambers 2, 3 may be inflated through valves 17 (18) or may receive separately inflatable bladders. The chambers 2, 3 may be alternately inflated and deflated by a control system (Fig. 3) comprising a manifold (M) which alternately supplies the chambers 2, 3 through lines (23, 24 respectively) and two-way solenoid valves (SV1, SV2) controlled by a timer (T). When one valve (SV1) communicates with the manifold (M) the other (SV2) allows deflation through a regulator valve (RV2). A switch (SS) selectively causes any desired number of compressors (C) to supply the manifold (M).
