Abstract

1,163,164. Bearings. McGILL MFG. CO. Inc. (R. J. Smith). 25 Oct., 1967, No. 48412/67. Heading F2A. In a rolling bearing assembly inner and outer races 16, 12 have facing grooves 42, 40, an annular seal 50 has a radially outer and a radially inner pair of extensions, one extension 54, 56 of each pair being forced against a side wall of a respective groove by the other extension 60, 62 which itself presses on a respective race. The seal is of plastics material, e.g. nylon. Extensions 60, 62 are deformed by engagement with the race from an unstressed position. Extensions 54, 56 are spaced from the base and the other side wall of the grooves. In Fig. 5 (not shown), both extensions of a pair enter the groove and press against opposite sides. In Fig. 7 (not shown), the seal is divided radially into two parts.
