Abstract

1,254,821. Seals; clutch control. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. 3 Feb., 1970 [5 Feb., 1969], No. 5021/70. Headings F2B and F2L. A clutch disengaging assembly comprises a sliding sleeve 3 connected for mutual movement with an outer bearing race 2, an inner bearing race 1 having a flange 7, a first labyrinth or contact packing arranged in a radial gap between the races on the clutch side of the bearing 4, and a second labyrinth or contact packing arranged in either a radial gap 5 between the inner race and the sliding sleeve or an axial gap 6 between the races on the side of the bearing remote from the clutch. The packing between the races 1, 2 on the clutch side of the bearing 4 may consist of two co-operating labyrinth members, Fig. 1, a single labyrinth member which co-operates with a groove in the inner race or a flexible lip which contacts either the cylindrical surface of the inner race, or a radial or rounded face, Fig. 5. The second packing when provided in the gap 5 may consist of a flexible lip which is arranged to contact either the sliding sleeve, Fig. 5, or the inner race or of two co-operating labyrinth members. The second packing when provided in the gap 6 may consist of a labyrinth member 8, Fig. 1, which co-operates with a recess in either the sliding sleeve or the inner race, or a flexible lip (12), Fig. 4 (not shown), which contacts the end face of the inner race (1).
