Abstract

1491097 Rectilinear motion bearings SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 28 Jan 1975 [8 Feb 1974] 3709/75 Heading F2A A cage for a recirculating ball mechanism has longitudinal webs 2 and end rings 3 which define apertures in which strip steel inserts 4 are located. Each insert 4 comprises radially inner portion 9 and radially outer portion 8 joined by web 11. On the radially outer surface of inner portion 9 is a raceway 10 for balls in a first portion of an endless path in which the balls are not subjected to load, while on the radially inner surface of outer portion 8 is a raceway 6 for balls on a second portion of an endless path in which the balls are subjected to load. The balls recirculate between first and second portions by means of reversing portion 7. The cage is suitably of resilient material, e.g. plastics, so that the balls can be forced into the aperture between the cage and web 11. Variant crosssections of insert are described.
