Abstract

1,016,158. Rotary tilting furnaces; converters. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B Oct. 2, 1962 [Oct. 3, 1961], No. 37376/62. Heading F4B. A furnace or converter comprises a stand 15, Fig. 2, tiltable in relation to a base and a furnace body 32 rotatable in relation to said stand, the furnace being detachably arranged in a roller frame 31 comprising laminated roller rings 34 connected by members 40, Fig. 8, which co-operate with rollers 18 along not more than 180 degrees of the periphery of the furnace body for radial support, the frame being supported axially by the conical rollers 20. The furnace body and the stand may be locked by braking means 39 and 24 respectively. The furnace body is rotated by the motor 19 acting through the gears 26, 27, 28 and 25 to drive the rollers 18 and the stand is tilted, by the motors 12, Fig. 2, acting through the gears 14 and gear segments 17, about the axis of the supporting discs 16 which co-operate with the rollers 13. The furnace body is held in the roller frame by spring-loaded pins 36, Fig. 8, acting against iron supports 35 on the furnace body, the loading being controlled by internally threaded rings 38. The furnace when in the operating position, Fig. 6 (not shown), has an evacuating tube and a blowing nozzle in its mouth for the production of steel from malleable cast iron.
