Abstract

961,368. Tilting, rotary furnaces. STORA KOPPARBERGS BERGSLAGS A.B. May 1, 1962 [May 9, 1961], No. 16631/62. Heading F4B. A tilting, rotary furnace or converter comprises a furnace body 1 detachably mounted in a tilting, rotary support 3. The furnace body has lifting lugs 2 at top and bottom so that it can be lifted from the ring support 3 in either vertical position, or it can be lowered on to a carriage below the support. The support 3 carries tread rings 4 engaging guide and support rollers 5, 6, which can be driven by motors 14 according to the position of the furnace body during rotation. The support 3 and a frame 9 carrying the rollers 5, 6 can be tilted about shafts 11 by gearing 13. The furnace body 1 is located and held in place by rings 18, 19, Fig. 4, secured to the body and engaging clamping jaws 24, 25 supported by lugs 27, 28 passing through openings in the support 3. The outer surface of one ring 19 is tapered, so that thermal expansion can be accommodated by resilient packing between the ring 34 and support lugs 33. The jaws 24, 25 may be held against the rings 18, 19 by wedges 26 or screws. The rings 18, 19 may be replaced by rings of pads 20, 21. Flat pads 20 are engaged by wedges 43, 44, Fig. 6, held between the pads and shoulders 48, 47 by spring- loaded bolts 39. The wedgeshaped pads 21 which may be offset from the flat pads 20 are held against shoulders 35 by wedges 37 held between shoulders 36, 38 by a spring-loaded bolt. The surfaces of the pads 20, 21 and their co-operating shoulders or wedges may be curved or flat. The body 1 may be held in place by cranked levers 52, 56 pivoted to the ring support 3 and engaging the shoulder of the tapered ring 19 and the outer surface of the plain ring 18, Fig. 8. The conical surface of the ring 19 is held against a ring 51 on the holder 3. Bridges 61, 62 secure the levers 52, 56. Grooves or recesses may be formed in the furnace body to co-operate with clamping members on the support ring.
