Abstract
1,012,752. Fuel injection pumps and injectors. WALKER MANUFACTURING CO. July 17, 1962, No. 27502/62. Headings F1A and F1B. A combined fuel injection pump and injector comprises a pump pressure chamber 60, Fig. 1, the volume of which at the beginning of each pump stroke is adjusted in dependence upon the fuel supply pressure. In Fig. 1 a cylinder 100, actuated by the engine compression pressure, reciprocates over a stationary plunger 56 forming the fuel inlet passage with inlet valve 34, and a spring loaded sleeve 141 between the plunger 56 and cylinder 100 is raised by the pressure of the fuel entering the metering chamber 60 to vary the initial metering chamber volume and hence the amount of fuel injected. The chamber 60 feeds the injector valve 200 loaded by spring washers 192. On each pumping stroke the increasing pressure in chamber 60 as cylinder 200 is driven upwards lifts sleeve 141 until it contacts the end 130 of the cylinder when further increase in pressure in chamber 60 causes opening of the injector valve 200. Leakage fuel is removed through resilient connector 86. In a modification the cylinder 100 is stationary and the plunger 56 is reciprocated mechanically.
