Abstract

912,206. Fuel injectors; valves. CLARKE, F. A., and BROOKE, T. Dec. 7, 1959 [Dec. 9, 1958], No. 39734/58. Classes 7(3) and 7(6) [Also in Group XXVIII] The stem of an inlet valve 1 is surrounded by a fuel injection pump chamber 10 from which fuel is injected through a passage 20 and a discharge valve space 21 when the inlet valve opens. The pump space 10 is formed in a member 50 integral with or attached to the valve guide 2 and the pump plunger 51 is attached to the valve stem 1. When valve 1 opens, the valve recess 21 connects the passage 20 to the intake pipe for injection thereinto. A spring- loaded piston 61 yields at an adjustable predetermined pressure in the pump space to absorb a portion of the pump delivery and reduce the amount injected. The fuel supplied to the pump space 10 is metered by a piston 75, Fig. 3, with grooves 78 of varying size, the fuel entering at 71 and flowing through the grooves 78 to the pipe 74 leading to the pump space 10. The piston is operated by intake pipe suction, transmitted through pipe 80, so that as the suction increases the piston moves to the right to bring the smaller grooves opposite port 71 and reduce the fuel supply to the pump. In a modification the pump cylinder is carried on the valve stem 1 and the pump piston is formed by the valve guide.
