Abstract

1,065,231. Hooks. BARROW HEPBURN & GALE Ltd. Feb. 2, 1965 [Feb. 13, 1964], No. 6066/64. Heading F2H. A hook 1 for a personal safety belt or harness has a pivoted mousing-piece 2, loaded by a spring (not shown), to its closed position and locked in that position by a surrounding sleeve 4 which is rotatable against the action of a spring (9) in the sleeve to an unlocking position permitting the mousing- piece to be opened. The sleeve spring could be a compression spring. In Fig. 1 the mouse 2 is pivoted at 3 and an extension 5 of the sleeve 4 engages the nose 6 of the hook to lock the mouse until the sleeve is rotated through 180 degrees to contact the other side of a stop 12. In a modification, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), when the mouse (2) is open, the sleeve (4) is held in the unlocked position by a notch (16) on an extension of the sleeve straddling a nose (13a) on the lug (13) of the hook (1) on which the mouse (2) is pivoted. A similar notch (29), Figs. 5-7 (not shown), and a lug (30) co-act for the same purpose in another embodiment in which a mouse (17) pivoted at (18) is locked closed by a sleeve (19a, 19b) having an inturned end (27), with opposed notches 26, for engaging on the T-shaped end (28) of the hook nose. The end of the sleeve is a separate piece (19a) secured to the main piece (19b) by a pin (22) and providing two quadrant slots (24) for the ends of a pin (23) protruding from the mouse (17) so that the sleeve can be moved only by turning against a spring (25) through 90 degrees about the mouse, for permitting release from the hook end (28).
