Abstract

986,661. Sliding bolts; multiple fastenings. J. HUMPHREY FOX & R. H. MORGAN Ltd. March 28, 1961 [Dec. 28, 1959], No. 43993/59. Heading E2A. In a door fastening, of the type comprising a bolt operatively linked to a spindle which is capable of being both rotated and locked against rotation, by means located on one side of the door, the bolt is connected to the said spindle by means which may be disengaged to allow operation of the bolt from the other side of the door when the spindle is locked against rotation. As particularly described, the fastening comprises two bolts 6 operated by a central handle 9. The spindle 13, passing through the door 10, is keyed at one end to the handle 9 which comprises a barrel lock operative to lock the spindle against rotation. At its other end the spindle is keyed to a lever 20 carrying two pins 32 engaging in slots 33 in a disc 21 to which the bolts 6 are pivoted at 47. A member 38 pivoted to the disc 21 and formed with an L- shaped slot 39 is formally urged by spring 40 to hold one pin 32 against one end of the corresponding slot 33 as shown in Fig. 3, in which case rotation of the spindle 13 results in movement of the bolts 6. However, by moving the member 38 to disengage the pin 32 from the limb 41 of the L-shaped slot, the disc 21 is freed to move angularly relative to the lever 20 and spindle 13. This independent movement of the disc 21 is achieved by means of a finger grip 45 on a cover 43 screwed to the disc 21. To reconnect the bolts to the spindle, it is merely necessary to rotate the latter until the appropriate pin 32 comes into register with the limb 41 of the L-shaped slot, when the spring 40 will operate to return the member 38 to the position shown in Fig. 3.
