Abstract

Applicator assembly consists of an applicator of an elastically compressible material surrounding all or part of a cosmetic product in stick form, mounted on a mobile and spring-loaded carrier. In the absence of any pressure on the applicator the cosmetic stick is located beneath its surface, while a pressure applied to the carrier causes the stick to project through the applicator. Applicator assembly (1) consists of an applicator (7) of an elastically compressible material surrounding all or part of a cosmetic product (31) in stick form, mounted on a mobile and spring-loaded carrier (32). In the absence of any pressure on the applicator the cosmetic stick is located beneath its surface (9), while a pressure applied to the underside of the carrier causes the stick to project through the applicator so it can be applied directly to a surface.

Description

The present invention relates to an applicator assembly, in particular for a cosmetic product such as a makeup product. Such an applicator assembly can be used in particular for the application of a blush, an eyeshadow, a blush, a lipstick, a foundation, a care cream, a sun or hair product. More generally, it can be used to the application of any breakable product.

We know to date different types of applicators, used especially for makeup products. We know among others, type applicators "matches" or "Qtip" in the form of a rod of which one end is loaded by soaking, or by spraying, with cosmetic products. This first category has the disadvantage of depositing too much product during the application. Furthermore, this type of applicator does not make it possible to blur the applied product. Finally, by their configuration, these applicators are generally fragile.

There are also known applicators, on the surface of which a product of the type cosmetic product is pressed or compacted. One of the major drawbacks of these applicators is due to their low autonomy. Generally, these applicators are used as samples.

Finally, there are also known, "puff" type applicators used in combination with a housing comprising at least one cup, in which cosmetic products are poured or compacted. These compacts are relatively expensive.

Patent FR 2 642 675 describes a dispenser of solid or pasty product, contained in a tank with a dispensing orifice, the product being pushed towards the dispensing orifice by means of a motor mechanism. According to what document, the edges of the dispensing orifice are covered with a coating such a flocking or a thin foam so as to allow the application of the product. The device described in this patent is of an operation complex, and is relatively expensive to produce.

There are also other types of applicators, such as polish applicators, in which the product to be applied is contained in a tube on which is mounted a block of foam pierced with a hole defining a communication channel with the tube. In these applicators, the product is brought to the surface application, by applying pressure to the walls of the tube so as to force the product to pass into the applicator channel and bring it onto the application surface. Apart from the bulk, these devices are not suitable for make-up type products, due mainly difficulty in correctly dosing the applied product.

The patents FR 1 272 557, US 1 899 386, and US 2 450 919 describe product applicators, generally in powder form, in which the powder is contained in a housing formed in a block of foam and of which the free end is covered with a sieve, in the form of a perforated sheet, a cloth, or other porous material. In these devices, the product is free in the housing thus formed, which makes it difficult to apply the product in a metered manner. Furthermore, the orifices, pores, or other holes formed in the sheet closing the hollow housing, are subject to rapid fouling, making the device unusable. Finally, such devices are not suitable for products of higher consistency, such as lipsticks.

The device described in US Patent 1,524,008, like those described in the documents US 1 899 386 and US 2 450 919, mentioned above, includes a bottom forming an integral part of the foam block in which the housing. The soap contained in this housing is not integral with the housing, this which, over use, gives it greater and greater axial mobility. This mobility, in particular axial, makes the application of the product very difficult to accurately dose, the difficulty in application being further accentuated by the the bottom is not rigid or semi-rigid. These accuracy issues and dosage of the application is however not critical, when the product is a soap, as in US patent 1,524,008.

From patent FR-2 754 985, it is known an applicator of disintegrable product comprising a foam block of which at least one face has a surface of application of the product, and having a hole in axis A, opening onto the surface application. The foam block defines at least one housing in which is arranged a stick of product, having a free surface. The foam block is configured to selectively move from a rest position in which the free surface is at, or below, the surface application, to an application position in which the foam block is at less partially compressed along axis A, and in which said free surface is substantially at the level of the application surface.

Although satisfactory in many respects, the device described in this document suffers from a drawback that the free surface of the product does not can be brought to the application surface only in response to a pressure of the foam block on the surface to be treated so as to compress it, which pressure must be more and more important with the wire than the height of the stick decreases inside the accommodation. This results in comfort on application which can sometimes be deemed insufficient.

In addition, such a configuration requires the use of a height applicator at the less as important as the initial height of the stick, which makes the use sometimes complicated, especially when the product stick, at the end of use, is low height.

Patent FR 782 500 describes a badger for the beard and consists of a soap for beard, at least the upper part of which is surrounded by an annular element in foam, intended to collect and distribute the foam.

Various means in particular in the form of threads, mechanisms in the form of rack, or other sliding systems are described so as to make advance the soap towards the application surface, as its height decreases. With all these mechanisms, the risk is great that, between two uses, the soap remains partly outside the foam block, and either subject to untimely damage or drying out.

In addition, its handling would be tedious to say the least if we wanted to first apply the product on the skin, then distribute it using the applicator without the product still being in contact with the skin. Such a fashion of use does not correspond to the conventional mode of use of a soap beard.

A slightly different type of beard shaving brush is described in US-A-1 309,495. According to this document, the application side of the product cannot be brought at the free end of the badger hair only in response to a control over the structure carrying the soap. Apart from all control over the soap dish, the surface of the soap is inside a cylindrical sleeve located under the base of the badger hair.

It is therefore one of the objects of the invention to provide a device which resolves in whole or in part, the problems discussed above with reference to the devices conventional.

It is in particular an object of the invention to produce an applicator assembly allowing comfort in the application significantly better than that allowed by some conventional devices.

It is another object to make such a device which is economical to make and easy to use.

It is another object of the invention to produce a device whose height the applicator is reduced compared to certain conventional devices.

Other objects will appear in the detailed description which follows.

According to the invention, these objects are achieved by producing an applicator assembly comprising at least one applicator surrounding all or part of a product, in particular in the form of a stick, mounted on a mobile product-carrying element relative to the applicator, the product having, opposite the product holder element, a surface which, in the absence of stress on the applicator assembly, occupies a first position located at or below a face for applying the applicator, said product-holding element being mounted so that, in response to a command, including pressure, exerted on the element product holder, said surface moves relative to the application face, and passes into a second axial position relative to the latter, said surface returning by elastic return to the first position when the pressure, said application face, in the absence of any command exerted on the product-carrying element, being, or being capable of being brought into, substantially at level of said surface.

Thus, according to the invention, in particular at the start of use of the device, when the free surface of the product is close to the application face, setting the same level of the free surface of the stick and the application surface can be caused by bringing the application face to the level of the free surface of the product.

Advantageously, in the absence of any command exerted on the product-carrying element, the application face is capable of being brought substantially to the level of said surface in response to a pressure exerted axially on the face application and directed towards said surface.

For this purpose, the applicator preferably comprises an end situated opposite of the application face, said surface, in the absence of any command exercised on the product holder, having an axial position located between the face application and said end opposite to the application face.

However, at the end of use of the stick, the movement of the free surface of the product towards the application face in response to an order exercised on the product holder, may prove advantageous from the point of comfort in application.

This latter operating mode makes it possible to reduce the pressure to be applied, and thus increasing comfort on application.

Thus, according to this operating mode, the user exerts pressure on the bottom of the device via the product holder element. In doing so, it advances the surface free of the product towards the application side, until both are about the same level. He then puts the application side into engagement with the skin and deposits the product on the latter. He then releases the pressure exerted on the product holder element, which automatically causes the return of the free surface of the product in its withdrawal position relative to the face application. The latter, with respect to which the free surface of the product is set back, can then be used to blend the product and / or distribute it homogeneously on the surface to be treated. According to this operating mode, thus disconnected the "product application" function from the "spreading" function and / or "fading", without the application pressure being increased by noticeably as the height of the stick decreases.

Due to the mobility of the product holder relative to the applicator, the applicator portion of the applicator need not be at least tall equal to the height of the stick. Application accuracy is improved, especially at the end of use of the device.

The command can be exercised directly or indirectly on the product holder element. It is indeed possible to provide an actuating surface coupled to adequately to the product holder element, and on which the pressure is exerted aiming to advance the free surface of the product towards the face application. The actuation pressure can be exerted in one direction identical to the movement of the stick towards the application face, or according to a different direction.

Advantageously, the applicator is formed of an element traversed over its entire height by a passage, one end of which opens onto the application face via at least one orifice, and inside which, in response to said pressure, is moves said surface. Preferably, the passage is cylindrical in shape, and the orifice is of section substantially equal to the section of the passage.

According to a preferred embodiment, the applicator is at least partly elastically compressible. Typically, open cell foam or semi open is used.

The elastic return is generated by an elastically deformable element, in particular a spring, a block of an elastically compressible material, or a membrane of elastic material.

Preferably, the applicator is coupled, in particular by gluing, welding, crimping, or magnetic attraction, on an applicator holder element. This characteristic greatly facilitates the setting in motion of the element product holder relative to the applicator, and facilitates the implementation of the connection elastic existing in between. In addition, it facilitates the handling of the assembly insofar as the applicator element can be used as gripping organ of the assembly.

Still other coupling means can be envisaged between the applicator and the applicator element, the main thing being that the application surface is substantially insensitive to axial movement of the product holder in view to bring the free surface of the stick to the level of the application face.

Preferably, the product holder element and the applicator holder element are made of a rigid or semi-rigid material, in particular polypropylene. They can be obtained from molding.

According to a first embodiment, the elastically deformable element is consisting of an elastically compressible element, in particular a block of foam or spring, and a first portion of which is in engagement with the applicator element, and a second portion of which is in engagement with the product holder element.

Such an elastically deformable element, in particular when it is configured under form of a spring or block of compressible material, can form a single and the same part, obtained in particular by molding, with the applicator, with the product holder element, or with the applicator holder element. So the element generating the elastic return can be formed of a first portion of a block of foam of which a second portion, obtained by molding with the first, makes applicator office. In this case, a fixed portion of the applicator holder element "isolates" the applicator part from the part generating the elastic return.

The applicator element may include a hollow element, a first of which end ends with an annular wall on which the applicator is mounted, a second end being open so as to allow the mounting of the product holder element on the applicator assembly. The product holder can be kept in the mounted position on the applicator assembly via a plug, removable or not, through which the product-carrying element is accessible in view to exert said pressure there.

Alternatively, the product holder element is kept in the mounted position on the applicator assembly by means of one or more beads provided on a internal surface of a side wall of the hollow element.

According to another embodiment, the elastically deformable element is consisting of an elastic membrane, a first portion of which, in particular peripheral, is integral with the applicator-carrying element, and a second of which portion, in particular central, is integral with the product holder element.

Product holder can be configured as a material cup rigid, glued to the center of the membrane. Alternatively, the product holder element can be formed from a larger thickness portion of the membrane, substantially in the center of the latter, and configured as a cup.

Preferably, the product-carrying element is removably mounted relative to to the applicator or relative to the applicator holder element on which it is fixed. Thus, due to the removable nature of the mounting between the applicator holder (or the applicator) and the product holder, the consumer can choose to apply a product given in different ways, in particular with a view to obtaining a different makeup result. Likewise, with the same applicator assembly, it may choose to change the color, nature or texture of the product it wish to apply, simply by changing the product holder associated with their applicator assembly. Between two successive applications of two products different, by means of the same applicator, the latter can be passed under the tap so that the application of the second product is not polluted by possible residues of the first product.

According to a preferred embodiment, the housing leads to all of its section, directly on the application surface. Alternatively, in particular for a slightly less rigid product, it is possible to make clear the passage on the application surface via a sieve, or any other openwork structure.

Advantageously, the assembly according to the invention comprises a removable cover suitable, in the storage position, for styling the application surface.

The applicator preferably comprises at least one block of cell foam. open, semi open, or closed. By way of nonlimiting examples, there may be mentioned polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam, polyurethane, polyether, polyester. Alternatively, the applicator is formed from an SBR type elastomer (synthetic butadiene rubber), NBR, silicone, or nitrile.

The applicator may include a plurality of concentric foam blocks arranged around the housing. Alternatively, the applicator includes a stacking a plurality of foam blocks, each of the foam blocks having a central recess, the foam blocks being stacked so that their respective recesses are substantially aligned so as to form the housing. Thus, depending on the configuration of the applicator, we play on the characteristics on application, in particular smoothness or precision.

Means may be provided to promote, uniformly or preferential, the compression of the applicator. Such means can be consisting of one or more grooves formed around all or part of the housing.

The application surface can be covered with a flocking, a textile material, or of a frame.

The product may be a blush, a blush, an eyeshadow, a red lips, foundation, skincare, sunscreen, or product capillary.

The invention consists, apart from the arrangements set out above, of a certain number of other arrangements which will be explained below, with reference to nonlimiting exemplary embodiments, described with reference to the appended figures, among which:

• Figure 1 is an exploded view of the applicator assembly according to a first embodiment;
• Figures 2A-2C illustrate the operation of the embodiment of Figure 1;
• FIGS. 3A-3C relate to a second embodiment of the invention;

Figures 1 and 2A-2C, to which reference is now made, illustrate a applicator assembly according to a first embodiment. The set 1 of axis X, comprises an applicator-carrying element 2 and a product-carrying element 30.

The applicator holder 2 comprises a transverse wall 4 traversed at its center by a hole 5 of section slightly greater than the section of the product stick 31 disposed on the product holder 30. The transverse wall 4 is connected to a skirt side 6, one end opposite to the transverse wall 4 is open.

On the surface of the wall 4, opposite the skirt 6, is stuck an applicator member formed of a block of foam 7, crossed by an axial housing 8 of shape cylindrical, and of section similar to the section of the hole 5. The housing 8 extends over the entire axial height of the foam block 7. It opens out through an orifice 13 formed at the center of an application face 9 formed by the foam block, opposite the transverse wall 4. The orifice 13 is of section substantially identical to the section housing 8.

Noticeably at mid-height, the applicator 7 has an annular groove outer 3 intended to facilitate compression of the applicator when the latter is moved on the skin.

On the side opposite to the side skirt 6, the transverse wall 4 carries a skirt 10 of which the outer surface carries a bead 11 capable of cooperating with a groove corresponding 24 provided on the internal surface of a removable cap 12.

The product holder 30 comprises a transverse wall 32 of outside diameter slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the side skirt 6.

On the side of the transverse wall 32, opposite the open end of the skirt lateral 6, is formed an axial chimney 36, of section slightly less than the section of the orifice 5 passing through the transverse wall 4 of the applicator holder 2. The axial chimney 36 delimits a cup capable of receiving a stick 31 of a product of makeup P, such as a foundation. The stick 31 is kept inside the cup by tightening. Means of fin or groove type (not shown) can be provided in the bottom or on the sides of the cup to improve the attachment of the stick 31 in the cup.

The applicator holder 2 as well as the product holder 30 are obtained by molding polypropylene.

Between the transverse wall 4 of the applicator holder and the transverse wall 32 of the product holder, is disposed a helical spring 40. The product holder member 30 is maintained in position, despite the force generated by the spring, by means of a annular plug 50 screwed inside the side wall 6 of the applicator-carrying element. The plug 50 is crossed by an orifice 51 which, as will be seen in detail later, allows access to the product-carrying element, in order to make reassemble the stick 31 in the direction of the orifice 13 of the application face 9. Two diametrically opposite radial ribs 52, 53 facilitate rotation plug 50, one way or the other.

Thus, a set 1 is formed comprising an applicator holder 2 and a product holder 30, which can, according to this embodiment, be dissociated for, will, either change the product associated with a given applicator, or change the applicator associated with a given product.

In the mounted position as shown in FIG. 2A, the stick is arranged to the interior of the housing 8 defined by the foam block 7, the free surface 33 of the product being below the application surface 9. As an indication, the height of the stick is of the order of 10 mm, for a housing 8 whose depth at rest is approximately 13 mm.

In view of a product application, illustrated in FIG. 2B, the user exercises a axial pressure on the wall 32 of the product holder 30, access to the wall 32 being made through the orifice 51. In doing so, the free surface 33 of the product is brought substantially at the level of the application surface 9, or even slightly above of the latter. The stick 31 of product P is then in contact with the skin, and the product can be deposited by moving the free surface of the product on the skin. After applying a sufficient quantity of product, the user releases the pressure exerted on the wall 32 of the product holder 30. Under the restoring force generated by the spring 40, the product-carrying element 30 as well as the stick 31 return to the position of FIG. 2A. The user can then, as shown in Figure 2C, blend the product with the application surface 9, the free surface 31 of the product being set back relative to the latter. Over the uses, the level of product in the housing decreases, until use substantially complete product.

The embodiment illustrated in FIGS. 3A-3C differs from the previous embodiment in that:

1. - The spring 40 is replaced by a block of compressible material, in particular a foam 41. Preferably, the hardness of the foam 41 is greater than the hardness of the foam forming the applicator 7;

2. - The product holder element 30 is held in the mounted position relative to the applicator holder 2 via beads 14 formed on the internal surface of axial tongues 15, formed by the side wall 6 of the applicator holder 2, and separated between them by axial slots 16. When mounting the product holder on the applicator holder, the crossing of the beads 14 by the wall 32 of the product holder is allowed by the radial elastic deformability of the axial tongues 15; and

3. - the application face 9 is flocked by means of rayon fibers.

As illustrated in FIGS. 3A-3C, the operation of the assembly according to this mode is similar to that of the previous embodiment.

The embodiment of FIGS. 4A-4C differs from the embodiments above in that the product-carrying element 30 consists of a cup 37, glued to the center of an elastomeric membrane 42 whose periphery is integral from the annular edge of the side wall 6 of the applicator holder. Furthermore, just like in the previous embodiment, the application face 9 is flocked.

As illustrated in FIGS. 4A-4C, the operation of the assembly according to this mode of embodiment is similar to that of the preceding embodiments.

The embodiment of FIGS. 5A-5C differs from the embodiment of the FIGS. 3A-3C in that the foam block 41 springing out between the applicator holder 2 and the product holder 30 consists of the lower portion of the portion applicator 7, with which it forms a single piece. However, a flange transverse "isolates" the applicator portion 7 of the spring portion 41, of so that, in response to an axial pressure exerted on the wall 32 of the product holder 30, the applicator part is substantially stationary axially. So, alone the stick 31 moves in the direction of the application face 9.

As illustrated in FIGS. 5A-5C, the operation of the assembly according to this mode of embodiment is similar to that of the preceding embodiments.

In the foregoing detailed description, reference has been made to modes of preferred embodiments of the invention. Obviously there may be variations made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed below.

Claims (23)

Applicator assembly (1) comprising at least one applicator (7) surrounding all or part of a product, in particular in the form of a stick (31), mounted on a product holder (30) movable relative to the applicator (7), the product having, opposite the product holder, a surface (33) which, in the absence of stress on the applicator assembly, occupies a first position located at or below an application face (9) of the applicator, said product holder (30) being mounted so that, in response to a command exerted on the product-carrying element, said surface (33) moves relative to the application face (9), and passes into a second axial position relative to the latter, said surface (33) returning by elastic return in the first position when the command ceases, said application face (9), in the absence of any command exerted on the product-carrying element (30), being, or being capable of be brought, substantially at the level of said surface (33). Applicator assembly (1) according to claim 1 characterized in that in the absence of any command exerted on the product-carrying element (30), the application face (9) is capable of being brought substantially to the level of said surface (33) in response to a pressure exerted axially on the application face (9) and directed towards said surface (33). Applicator assembly (1) according to claim 1 or 2 characterized in that the applicator (7) comprises an end situated opposite the application face (9), said surface (33), in the absence of any control exerted on the product-carrying element (30), having an axial position situated between the application face (9) and said end opposite to the application face (9). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 3 characterized in that the applicator (7) is formed of an element traversed over its entire height by a passage (8), one end of which opens onto the face d application via at least one orifice (13), and inside which, in response to said command, moves said surface (33). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterized in that the applicator (7) is at least partly elastically compressible. Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 5 characterized in that said elastic return is generated by an elastically deformable element (40, 41, 42), in particular a spring (40), a block of a material resiliently compressible (41), or a membrane of elastic material (42). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of Claims 1 to 6, characterized in that the applicator (7) is coupled, in particular by bonding, welding, crimping, or magnetic attraction, to an applicator-carrying element (2) . Applicator assembly (1) according to claims 6 and 7 characterized in that the elastically deformable element (40, 41, 42) consists of an elastically compressible element, in particular a block of foam (41) or a spring (40), and a first portion of which is in engagement with the applicator-carrying element (2), and a second portion of which is in engagement with the product-carrying element (30). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the applicator-carrying element (2) comprises a hollow element (6, 4), a first end of which ends in an annular wall (4) on which the applicator (7) is mounted, a second end being open so as to allow the product-carrying element (30) to be mounted on the applicator assembly. Applicator assembly (1) according to claim 8 characterized in that the product-carrying element (30) is held in the mounted position on the applicator assembly via a plug (50), removable or not, through which the carrying element -product (30) is accessible in order to exercise said command. Applicator assembly (1) according to claim 9 characterized in that the product holder element (30) is held in the mounted position on the applicator assembly by means of one or more beads (14) formed on an internal surface of a side wall (6) of the hollow element. Applicator assembly (1) according to claims 6 and 7 characterized in that the elastically deformable element consists of an elastic membrane (42) of which a first portion, in particular peripheral, is integral with the applicator support element, and of which a second portion, in particular central, is integral with the product-carrying element (30). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of Claims 1 to 12, characterized in that the said product-carrying element (30) is removably mounted relative to the applicator (7) or relative to the applicator-carrying element ( 2) to which it is coupled. Applicator assembly (1) according to claim 4 or according to any one of the claims dependent thereon, characterized in that the passage (8) opens out over its entire section, directly on the application face (9). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the elastic return is generated by an element (41) forming a single piece, obtained in particular by molding, with the product-carrying element (30 ), with the applicator (7), or with an applicator-carrying element (2) to which the applicator is coupled. Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that it comprises a removable cover (12) capable, in the storage position, of covering the application face (9). Applicator assembly (1) according to claim 6 characterized in that the applicator holder element (2) forms a gripping member of said applicator. Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of claims 1 to 17 characterized in that the applicator (7) comprises at least one block of foam with open, semi-open, or closed cells. Applicator assembly (1) according to the preceding claim characterized in that the applicator (7) consists of a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam, polyurethane, polyether, polyester, or an SBR type elastomer (synthetic butadiene rubber), NBR, silicone, or nitrile. Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of Claims 1 to 19, characterized in that it comprises means (3) capable of promoting, in a uniform or preferential manner, the compression of the applicator (7). Applicator assembly (1) according to claims 4 and 20 characterized in that said means consist of one or more grooves (3) formed (s) around all or part of the passage (8). Applicator assembly (1) according to any one of Claims 1 to 21, characterized in that the application face (9) is covered with a flocking, with a textile material, or with a weft.
