Abstract

Description

IMPROVEMENT IN STANDS FOR SIGNS AND SIMILAR OBJECTS
In connection with stands and other high objects such as masts one desired object is the possibility of erecting the stand by means of a simple and inexpensive equipment and another des ired object is the possibility of anschoring the stand or mast relative to for instance the ground-level plan in such a manner that it can resist the stresses which wind and other things can exert upon the stand.
Frequently it is also desired to rapidly lower the stand and probably move it.
Stands for signs frequently a re 8-10 meters high. The signs can have a considerable area and the stesses which a sign stand has to withstand as a consequence of for example wind thus can be considerable.
Sign stands of conventional design do not meet these requirements but are heavy and difficult to transport and for erecting or lowering them an equipment which is expensive, slow acting and difficult to transport is necessary.
Thus the main object of the invention has been to overcome the inconveniences which are connected with conventional stands and to provide a stand which fulfills the objects referred to.
In order to accomplish this and other objects the invention has the characteristics of the patent claims.
The accompanying drawing illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the invention and more specifically.
Fig. 1 is a diagrammatical side view of a sign stand according to the invention in an erected position while Fig. 2 is a similar view of the sign stand of fig. 1 but in a lowered position.
Fig. 3 finally, is an end view of the sign stand in question.
The sign stand illustrated in the drawing comprises a member 1 which is intended for ground contact and which in the illustrated embodiment has the shape of a rectangular frame. From the long sides of the latter there extends braces 2 which at the upper portion thereof are mutually connected and between theirselves support a hor izon ta l shaft 3 , abou t wh ich a mast 4 is p ivota l ly mounted . In the embodiment as shown said mast comprises two mutually parallel! elongated elements which at the upper end between theirselves support a sign 5 and the mast is pivotally mounted in such a manner that it may be swung down from the position shown in fig. 1 to the position shown in fig. 2.
The mast supports in the part thereof which according to fig. 1 is located beneath the pivot shaft 3 a container 6 which has a certain minimum volume. The numeral 7 designates the suspension point of the container.
The sign stand now described is transported to the chosen site and can at this occasion either be assembled or have the parts thereof completely or partly disassembled. When it Is desired to install the stand the support is placed at the desired place and the mast with the container secured thereto is mounted upon the pivot shaft 3 in those cases when the sign stand is not already assembled. By pump ing water in to the conta iner 6 the mast 4 is success ive ly erected. The container however has such a capacity that a further amount of water may be pumped into it after the mast has reached its vertical position. In this manner the sign stand will be able to take up the stresses for which the assembly can be exposed. Owing to the fact that the mas t 4 is not f irmly clamped but s imp ly performs a swinging or tilting movement when overloaded for instance by influence of eddy-winds on the sign 5 it is further accomplished that it may be dimensioned considerably weaker than otherwise. Raising and lowering occurs compared to conventional methods very rapidly and since water normally is available at the site the transports will be more simple and cheap than in conventional methods where the parts of the sign stand, which may be very heavy, have to be transported to the site.
It is further obvious that it is very easy to lower the sign stand since it is then only necessary to remove the water which has beein introduced into the container. Raising as well as lowering takes place under fully controllable conditions with successive and for the workers safe movements.
Although water in most instances will be the most appropiate medium to introduce into the container any medium giving the same effect may of course be used.

Claims

1. Improvement in stands for signs and the like, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that it includes an elongated element such as a mast
(4), which in one end thereof is capable of supporting a sign (5) or the like and which adjacent to its opposite end is pivotally connected to a support (1,2) and near to said opposite end has a container (6) which is provided to contain such an amount of a stuff that the container after the introduction of a specific amount of said stuff may raise the mast (4) from a substantially horizontal position (fig.2) to a substantially vertical position
(fig.1).
2. Improvement according to claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the container (6) has such a capacity that the weight of the stuff introduced therein is sufficient for withstanding the forces caused by for instance wind forces which act upon the stand.
3. Improvement according to claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the stuff consists of water and that arrangements are made for pumping water into respectively pump water out of the container (6) for raising respectively lowering of the mast (4).
4. Improvement according to claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the support consists of a relatively elongated part (1) which may be applied towards the ground level and from which extends two at a distance from each other located upwardly directed parts (2) which support between themselves a horizontal shaft (3) about which the mast (4) is pivotally mounted.
