The object of the present invention is to pl'ovided with a central rectangular enlarge- 6o ro improve the construction of metallic posts ment 6, extending upward into the lower recand to provideasimple and comparatively intangular frame-1, and secured to the same by expensive one of great strength and durathe fastening devices for connecting the botbility adapted to be employed in the Various tom frame to the corner-bars. The angle-bars are connected porting an electric light, and in order to enby horizontal frames 4 and inclined braces 5, able it to be employed for this purpose it is the'frames being constructed of asingle piece provided with a lower plate 12 for the atof material and being arranged at the top, tachment of a windlass, and it has a top bottom, and center ofthe post; but they may sleeve or tube 13 for the reception of a bar or 95 be arranged at points between the center and tube from which an electric light is susthe ends, as will be readily understood. The pended, and a horizontal su pporting-bar 14.- is post is rectangular in horizontal section, as arranged a short distance below the tube or clearly shown in Fig. 4, and the ianges or sleeve 13 for the reception of a swiveled pulwings of the angle-bars are riveted or otherley or wheel which is connected with the Ico 5o wise secured to the rectangular frames, which windlass and with the lamp. The lamp and firmly connect the corner-bars. The cornerthe mechanism for controlling the same may be of any desired construction, and the bottom plate 12, which is provided with upper and lower ears l for the reception of fastening devices for the attachment of a windlass, has end ears 16, which receive the sides of au approximately rectangular clamp 18, consisting of a rod bent into the form shown and having its terminals threaded for the reception of nuts 19. The bar l4is secured to the post in a similar manner by a clamp 20, and it has upper and lower extensions 21, arranged horizontally and extending outward from the upper and lower edges of the bar.
The horizontal sleeve 13 is fitted in an opening in a front bar 22, which is connected with a rear bar 23 by rods or bolts 24, provided at one end with a head and having the other end threaded for the reception of a nut. By this construction an efficient clamp is provided for engaging the post, and the sleeve may be readily applied to the latter at any desired point. The rear bar 23 is provided at its center with a socket 25 for the reception of the inner end of the sleeve or tube.
Instead of securing the bottom plate 12 and the horizontal bar 14 by means of the clamping-rods a rear bar similar to the bar 23 may be employed, and these clamping devices will enable the parts to be readily mounted on the post and arranged at the desired points.
It will be seen that the metal post is exceedingly simple and inexpensive in construction, that it possesses great strength and durability, and that it is adapted to be advantageously employed in all places Where post-s and columns are used.
l. A post comprising angle corner-bars, rectangular frames having integral sides and arranged within and connecting the cornerbars, braces arranged between the rectangular frames and connecting the corner-posts,
and a base provided with a rectangular en. largement fitted Within the bottom horizontal frame,.substantially as described.
2. The combination of a base, corner-bars, means for connecting the corner-bars, a front plate provided with a horizontal sleeve or tube, a rear plate having a socket to receive the tube, and means for connecting the plates and clamping the same to the post, substantially as described.
3. The combination of a base, corner-bars secured to the base, means for connecting the corner-bars, a horizontal tube provided with a front plate, a rear plate having a socket receiving the tube, means for. connecting the front and rear plates, a bottom plate provided with ears and having a clamp embracing the post, and a bar arranged below the tube and having a. clamp and provided with ears, substantially as described.
4. The combinationof angle corner-bars, rectangular braces arranged at the top, bottom and middle of the corner-bars, a base having a rectangular enlargement secured Within the bottom frame, a top piece having an enlargement secured within the top frame, a bottom plate 12 having vertical ears and provided With a rectangular clamping-rod embracing the post, the upper bar 14 having horizontal ears and provided with a rectangular clamping-rod embracing the post, and a horizontal sleeve having a clamp for embracing the post and located above the bar 14, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GOTTLIEB SCHNEIDER.
