Abstract

Production of a feed material (4) for molten metal production, comprises heating a mixture containing a metal oxide-containing material (2) and biomass (1) to carbonize the biomass in the mixture in a heating furnace (3) isolated from oxygen. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a molten metal (21), comprising charging a feed material in a melting furnace (20), and melting the feed material in the melting furnace.
