Abstract
Zwanzig Jahre nach der deutschen Vereinigung hat sich das wirtschaftliche, soziale und gesellschaftliche Bild Ostdeutschlands tiefgreifend geändert. Enorme Fortschritte konnten erzielt werden. Die Dynamik der Entwicklung hat sich allerdings seit dem Ende der 1990er Jahre deutlich abgeschwächt und die Aufholfortschritte sind im vergangenen Jahrzehnt immer kleiner geworden. Vor diesem Hintergrund hat das Bundesministerium des Innern im August 2010 einem Konsortium von sechs Forschungsinstituten den Auftrag erteilt, auf Basis vorliegender Forschungsergebnisse in knapper Form die wesentlichen wirtschaftlichen Stärken und Schwächen Ostdeutschlands herauszuarbeiten, daraus resultierende Herausforderungen für die Wirtschaftspolitik zu identifizieren und den Handlungsrahmen für die Bundesebene - sei er eher ordnungsökonomischer oder eher prozesspolitischer Art - abzustecken ...
