Abstract
This paper presents the findings from a study of the structural relationship between household income and consumption expenditure in the township of Kohima. It is based on the primary data collected from 209 households inhabiting 19 wards of the township. The paper investigates into the relationships between income and expenditure on different item groups. The paper reveals that the distribution of income and expenditure over the households is slightly unequal. Income elasticities of consumption expenditure have also been computed. Canonical correlations have been used to correlate source-wise income and item group-wise expenditure. Discriminant analysis has also been done to investigate if increase in per capita income of the households brings about structural changes in the pattern of consumption expenditure.
