Detective Pikachu Returns
Rachel is first seen at the beginning of the game as she watches Tim and his partner Detective Pikachu receive medals from the mayor of Ryme City to honor their efforts in investigating the R incident two years ago. Although classmates at Ryme University, Tim tells Pikachu that he has not had the opportunity to get to know Rachel.
The next day, Tim and Pikachu run into Rachel and her friend Jessica at the Hi-Hat Café. Rachel reveals that she has been following Tim's accomplishments through the news and considers him a celebrity. She also requests Tim's help with something going on at home that she does not want to disclose in public. Later that evening, Rachel joins in for dinner at Tim's home with his mother and sister. Rachel expresses that spending time with Tim and his family has relieved the concerns she had and she no longer feels the need to talk about what was bothering her. Instead, Tim asks if she knows anyone who may know more about the Aurora Drop, and Rachel suggests that they meet with her professor Trevor Gordon, who is an expert on minerals.
The next day, Rachel joins Tim and Pikachu to the Southern Ruins to meet Professor Gordon, but find out from his assistant and he has not returned from the ruins after heading in days ago. The group help to locate Professor Gordon and escape the ruins, but are attacked by a mysterious man with a Mamoswine, who escapes after being defeated.
Before Tim and Pikachu can further investigate the Aurora Drop and the mysterious group that attacked them, Pikachu is arrested by Brad McMaster for allegedly destroying a Slowpoke fountain. Rachel decides to continue helping Tim and Pikachu as they try to find evidence to prove Pikachu's innocence. During this investigation, Tim reveals to Rachel that he is able to communicate with Pikachu. The group discover that Will Butler, the chief of the Pokémon Protection Bureau, has been wrongfully detaining innocent Pokémon, and Pikachu is let free. During its investigations, Pikachu discovers an organization called Unitas that appears to be behind the detainment of Pokémon and informs them that Unitas may be planning to target Jessica next.
Worried for their friend, Tim, Rachel, and Pikachu seek Jessica out the next morning at Bamboo Borough. While the group is separated, Rachel and Jessica are attacked by a member of Unitas who steals Jessica's thumb drive containing the research of Emma Myers.
Later, Rachel again joins Tim and Pikachu as they infiltrate the abandoned Pokémon Unity Lab, which they suspect is being used as a base for Unitas. Here, they learn that Rachel's father is the CEO of Unitas which she finds difficult to comprehend. They realize that Mayor Myers was motivated by his desire to protect Rachel after her mother's death, but that Merloch has been manipulating him to achieve his own goals. When Tim and Pikachu confront Mayor Myers and Merloch on the bottom floor, Rachel helps convince her father of the true nature of the Control Cubes that Unitas is developing.
Personality and characteristics
Tim commends Rachel as being knowledgeable about Pokémon. Rachel also strongly believes that Pokémon and humans can understand each other's feelings, which was an appreciation she gained after being cared for by an Ursaring when lost in the Bamboo Borough as a young child.
Rachel is seen to be keen to help as she came to check in on Tim after hearing of Pikachu's arrest, and offered to help a friend in trouble. Rachel also appears to have a strong sense of justice as evidenced by her opposition of her father's Pokémon Friendship Bill, which she believes is a misguided course of action created to manage rather than coexist with Pokémon.
