Updates to browser support

Thank you for using Gyazo and Gyazo Teams.

We’ve made some updates to the supported browsers for Gyazo (including Gyazo Teams.) These updates are based on recent announcements about the retirement of Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge moving to Chromium technology in particular.

What’s new

  • Current support for each OS and browser has been clarified. See below.
  • The version of each OS is not specified, and the most recent up to date version is assumed.
  • Only the latest versions of Microsoft Edge (MS edge) based on Chromium will be supported.
  • Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is no longer supported. If you are using an unsupported browser including IE 11, please switch to using a supported browser.

Fully supported web browsers

The currently supported browsers and operating systems are shown below. Note that this table refers to the latest stable version of each web browser.

Image viewing

The way Gyazo behaves in unsupported browsers has changed, including Internet Explorer 11.

When you access an image page (any Gyazo page with a link like this https://gyazo.com/eb1339b2ef4e93e0d1e51766523de9ff ), you will be redirected to the direct image link.

As a result, you can still view images, but you will not be able to view the /captures page or to see and edit the image details.

If you are affected by this change, you’ll need to start using a fully supported browser.

Gyazo applications

If your operating system is out of date or is not supported you may not be able to upload, view images, or use other features of the Gyazo website or applications for  Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS.

It may be hard for us to provide customer support in these cases. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask that you use a supported operating system as well as browser.

Changes to IE11 and MS Edge support

For some time now we have informed people on our help page that we do not recommend the use of unsupported browsers, especially IE11. However, we know some people continued to use IE11 and we continued to develop support it as much as possible while making modifications as necessary.

However, we have now stopped all updates for IE11 except for vulnerabilities. The latest features and user experience are no longer supported. Also note that Microsoft has recommended migrating to Edge since 2018.

We have also discontinued development for the older versions of MS Edge with the release of the new MS Edge based on Chromium technology in January 2020. Chromium is the core browser technology behind Google Chrome, Brave, and other major browsers.

The newer version of MS Edge is available here

Safari support is unchanged

We will continue to support Safari with the latest stable version of mac OS only. This may not include the default version that ships with Mac OS, so please update Safari to maintain full support.

More to come

We always have asked you to use the latest browsers. While we did our best to support older browsers, sometimes this resulted in increased development costs and prevented us from providing the best experience using the latest browser features.

In light of this situation, as well as with the news from Microsoft about retiring Internet Explorer 11 and the release of the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge, we have made the decision to stop supporting these older browsers.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask that you please use a modern browser when using Gyazo such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Gyazo uses the latest web browser features, including PWA (Progressive Web App) technology for uploading through our mobile apps.

We will continue to make use of the latest web browser features to improve our service for you.

Change to image history for free users on March 1st: no more one month limit, 10 images forever + Sneak peek

This year we are releasing lots of updates and pushing to improve Gyazo in every area. To support continued development we are introducing a small change to the Gyazo homepage for free accounts.

Starting March 1st, free accounts will have homepage access to the 10 most recent images, with no time limit.

Previously, no images could be accessed after one month, except to delete. Note: you can still upload unlimited images and all images remain accessible by anyone with the link.

image

Getting a lot out of the homepage? This is a great time to upgrade
If you use the service every day for free and have lots of captures, this change may affect how you use the homepage. We hope you will consider upgrading to Gyazo Pro to unlock the full featured homepage if you’ve enjoyed saving time and sharing with us so far.

Keep access to key images
If you use Gyazo a few times a month or week, then this change could be a benefit as you will be able to have quick access to 10 images without a one month time limit.

Image page design update
As an example of the updates we have in store, a new and improved image page is coming soon. We’ve been trying it out and so far it seems to be noticeably better. It is the most common page seen on Gyazo and we’re putting the finishing touches on it now.

Here is a sneak peek:

New updates make collecting and deleting easier

We’ve just added a few features that make it much simpler to handle your images: quick tagging, and multiple image deleting.

By taking a second to add tags your screenshots and GIFs can quickly become a well-organized collection for new inspiration, saving memories, and sharing ideas. And when you want to delete a few images at once you can do so in one shot.

#Tag and go

image

You can now instantly organize your images by typing #hashtags in the description box. It saves as soon as you’re done typing so there is no need for an extra click. Each tag you create appears at the top of your search page for direct access to recent images you’ve collected.

Trim clutter and remove unwanted images easily

We have listened to your requests and added the ability to delete multiple images at once. On your search page click the check box on any images you wish to remove then click the new delete button in the header. It will ask you to confirm the delete and then all selected images will be removed from our servers permanently.

image

These are just a few small improvements to make managing your collection easier and we have a whole lot more coming your way.

We’re always happy to hear from you. Your ideas and comments are directly referenced for how we can grow the Gyazo experience.

A new Gyazo for 2016

image

Everyone working at Gyazo has joined together to create the best screenshot service in the world. And of course this will never change in the future.

But now Gyazo is not just a screenshot & GIF app, it is growing into an all-in-one instant cloud sharing service. So in 2016 we have decided to get off to a fresh start with the new Gyazo icon above.

Simple, speedy, and friendly.

“I tried to create an icon that evokes the idea of simplicity and a sense of speed when seen for the first time.” - Takeru Yoshihara, Lead Designer

image

After one day spent designing the new font he thought: “How about instead of using GYAZO in caps what if it was written lowercase: Gyazo?” This change to the typography was quickly decided when it made other non-design teammates say “That’s friendly, it seems nice.”

image

“Compared with the limited capture & upload functionality Gyazo previously had, the arrival of IvySearch brought a very big change to Gyazo and the types of users have expanded over time as well.

When first released it was used mainly by early adopters & so-called geeks. Because it is quite useful for anyone familiar with using a PC, now people such as designers, gamers, and regular office workers use Gyazo every day to save time. Because of this wide audience we have to create a design that is friendly enough to be well received by all.” - Yoshihara

In the same way we created the typography, the new icon was designed so you can use it while collaborating with people in different fields. It includes gentler curves on the outer edge to create a softer feeling and suggest the upper case G.

G for Gyazo

image

The name Gyazo comes from the japanese word “画像“ pronounced gazo, and meaning image, so it does not have any direct meaning in other languages. Because of this the logo is based on the shape of the letter “G” to help raise awareness of the name.

Evolving from capture & sharing tool → Integrated cloud service

Continuing from the previous tangible cutter knife, this time the look has changed a lot but it still includes a sharp edge in a combination of abstract shapes. What was the motivation for this?

image

“The main idea of the cutter knife in the previous icon was one used by a classmate in junior high school.” It inspired Gyazo’s CEO, Mr. Rakusai to make the previous icon in the image of this smart, overachieving boy’s handy tool. The Gyazo app when it was first created was a new idea: capture and share screenshots in one step. A practical tool to cut out images from your screen was the central focus of the old cutter knife icon. When Gyazo put serious computer users at the center of its focus like this it started spreading in the blink of an eye.

Now in 2016, IvySearch has added powerful ways to find your images and more new features will be coming one after another. Gyazo is more than a simple capture and sharing tool. It has smart info for searching your bookmarks and browsing related images. Everything is integrated so you can efficiently edit, manage, and share information you capture.

We created our new cloud service to enable this growth and plan to continue building for the future. Now the ‘cut’ operation of grabbing a screenshot has been changed to have a bigger meaning. The new icons are designed to represent “the cut material itself” + “the way materials are combined and work together.”

And, for new inspiration

image

This change also expresses the determination to continue being creative and innovative with Gyazo’s design in the future.

“The role Gyazo plays since the previous icon was made has changed a lot but you may still have a connection that has developed over time. With this new icon I wonder if you will enjoy trying a new idea, like the way your mood can be uplifted when you change into new clothes. I think icons have a similar role to clothes. In that sense this icon will be good if it leads to new inspiration for the Gyazo team and all our users.” - Yoshihara.

Coming Soon

The new icons are coming soon for web, Mac, Windows, iOS, and the chrome extension by automatic update.

Please stay tuned for the new icon in January 2016 as Gyazo takes the next step in its evolution.
