Jewell announced his candidacy for the second seat on the Texas Fourteenth District Court of Appeals in the 2016 elections. Incumbent Justice Sharon McCally announced that she would not seek re-election in 2016, leaving her seat open.[1] Jewell defeated fellow Republican Bud Wiesedeppe in the Republican primary. Jewell faced Democratic candidate Candance White in the general election.
