The city of Buffalo, New York, held elections for city council on November 3, 2015. A primary election took place on September 10, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was July 23, 2015. All nine city council seats were up for election.
Incumbents sought and won re-election in six of the nine city council races. None of them faced a challenger from a major political party, while three of them were completely unopposed. The only race that featured two candidates from both major parties was the Delaware District, where Joel Feroleto (D) defeated Peter Rouff (R) to succeed Michael J. LoCurto (D). LoCurto initially filed for re-election but then resigned to take a position with the county government, meaning candidates had to be chosen by their parties rather than in primaries.
Democrats were expected to win re-election in all the seats given the overwhelming Democratic affiliation among registered voters within the city.[1] In the one race where a Democrat faced opposition from a Republican, the voter registration was as follows: 11,635 Democrats, 2,896 unaffiliated, 2,856 Republicans and 1,223 other minor parties.[2] Given the lack of partisan opposition beyond the primary stage, elections this cycle were quiet.
