Brent Sanford
Brent Sanford (Republican Party) was the Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. He assumed office on December 15, 2016. He left office on January 2, 2023.
Sanford (Republican Party) ran for re-election for Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota. He won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Sanford filed for lieutenant governor on a joint ticket with Governor Doug Burgum (R). Sanford resigned as lieutenant governor on January 2, 2023.[1]
Prior to becoming lieutenant governor, Sanford served on the Watford City Council from 2006 to 2010 and as mayor of Watford City from 2010 to 2016.
Biography
A native of Watford City, Sanford has a degree in accounting from the University of North Dakota. He has worked as the chief financial officer for Transwest Trucks, and as owner and president of S & S Motors, a former Ford dealership he turned into a used auto sales and maintenance center.
Sanford served on the Watford City Council from 2006 to 2010 and as mayor of Watford City from 2010 to 2016.[2]

Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota (2016-2023)
Sanford first won election to the lieutenant governor's office on November 8, 2016. He was sworn into office on December 15, 2016, replacing Drew Wrigley (R).[3] Sanford resigned as lieutenant governor on January 2, 2023.[1]

2016
Sanford ran as the Republican for lieutenant governor of North Dakota on a joint ticket with gubernatorial candidate Doug Burgum (R) in 2016.[4] The two competed in the November 8 general election with Democrat and state Rep. Marvin Nelson and his running mate, state Sen. Joan Heckaman (D); and Libertarian technology executive Marty Riske and his running mate, restaurant manager Joshua Voytek (Lib.).
