Basic "arpeggio" use on Yamaha keyboard
On my Yamaha MOXF8, I can select one of their 7000+ patterns ("arpeggios"), then specify a chord, then the keyboard plays a pattern in that chord/key automatically. I do not have the kind of encyclopedic pop music knowledge that all existing help seems to assume.
To succeed, I need: 1) exact button press sequences an expert would use to have fun this way (I can do it in a basic way), and 2) how to choose awesome arpeggios from the 7000+ provided by Yamaha. I seek examples: video, articles, whatever. (I don't need chord progressions or cadences) [more inside]
Am I being irrational about fear of being let go at work?
I've been at my company for a few years, in a niche mid-senior level role that was created just for me to assist with a variety of projects that were very specific to a certain type of program/tech that we use for clients. The rest of my department is engaged in very complex work that I am not and have never been good at. The niche tech and programs that I specialize in however are sort of being phased out as the industry and technology changes, and I am struggling to keep up with the changes, as well as with the incredibly complex data/engineering work that the rest of my team does. How to dissuade creative effort?
I am in (what we shall refer to as) a performing troupe. A member of said outfit is set on doing all of our visual merchandising. This is not their strong point. What to do? [more inside]
Online searchable list of musical performances
Say I wanted to know if a certain musical artist will be performing in my area - or if a certain piece of music will be performed in my area - in the coming months. Are there online resources that would help me figure this out by aggregating upcoming events from many venues and making the results searchable? This would be relative to my location: Chicago, USA. Business development outsourced
Hey Metaminds -
I am working on helping my significant other with business development for her San Francisco based cooking school (for kids), corporate cooking classes, event space. I am wondering if the folks here have suggestions for firms that do business development/sales on a purely contingent/performance basis? Could be virtual or remote? [more inside]

Creative and/or weird uses and abuses of Twitch streaming
I am interested in innovative, creative uses and/or abuses of the Twitch streaming platform. Streamers who have used the platform as a creative medium, regardless of its (main) intention as a place for game streaming. Art and performance are what come to mind, but I am open to anything, either a single use case or a particular streamer who uses Twitch in an ongoing 'weird' way. [more inside]
Mediator problems
I am a mediator for a large agency. Currently, my agency rates my work on the amount of money claimants collect and the number of cases I settle. Both measurements have inherent problems. What are other metrics that can be used to measure the success of a mediation program? [more inside]

Bad (or “meh”) year at work
It’s performance review season (in corporate US big tech)! I have historically been very good at working the system and puffing myself up on my self-evaluations, but this has been a pretty rough year, in terms of health and other personal issues that have left me feeling bad about being such a flaky coworker. How do I approach this process in a way that is honest, but still puts myself in the best possible light? [more inside]
As a werewolf, how do I better entertain young human children?
I'm an amateur costume performer who does an event or two every year dressed as a realistic anthropomorphic wolf. I love it, and I'm not terrible at it! At least, the kids seem to like me and the adults who run the event keep asking me back. I'd like to put together a better act to entertain the kids for a longer period, but I have no training as either a performer or caretaker, don't have kids myself, and I'm a little lost trying to figure out how to do this... How to perform misspellings aloud
I will be reading a poem at an upcoming gathering. The poem includes a number of words which are deliberately mis-spelled by the poet as a reflection of the writing of a character in the poem. The mis-spellings are part of the point.
How can I read the poem aloud in a way that will appropriately convey the mis-spellings? [more inside]
What violin pieces should I study to improve technique?
I'm a violinist and fiddle player who's now in my mid-thirties and has been playing violin almost continuously since I was 3 years old. I've mostly played folk, country, and bluegrass for the last decade or so but have recently committed to practicing a wider variety at home including classical. What are some good pieces that might be new to me and would be reasonable to learn on my own as a fairly advanced player? I'm very open to a challenge, but don't necessarily want something with such a steep learning curve that it's demoralizing. [more inside]
Answering the question: How is Bob doing ? (in his role)
I am a sr. manager, with a small team. I moved over to this department about 6 months ago. Promoted to team lead, putting one of my teammates on PIP, help!
I'm a software developer who just got promoted to team lead of my small team (my first real lead position). One of our developers is not performing as well as we need. How to pick up speed at new job after a REALLY nice vacation
Today was my first day at a new job after an absolutely blissful two week vacation. One of the reasons I never took vacations in the past is that I lose my work momentum and become extremely stressed about my ability to perform once I've returned. I just don't know how to retain the relaxation I felt during vacation and use it to ramp things up slowly. What do you recommend? The past few weeks were maybe the first time I have been really happy in years. I don't want that joy to go away.
holding back
When I’m in a context where I (suspect I) have more skill with something than others, I tend to hold back significantly. This is a pattern I’ve had for a long time, but it’s creating some professional and personal problems and I’d love to learn how to not. [more inside]
2 classical performances by a quartet in one afternoon: which to attend?
Classical musicians: Our local chamber music society is hosting an outdoor string quartet concert next month that looks great (two 21st century and two classical pieces) but there are two performances of the program on the same day, 1pm and 3pm. In your experience, which performance is likely to be the most exciting? Is it dull for you to perform the same program twice in quick succession on the same day, so the first one would be better? Or is the second more likely to be looser, more assured after the warmup of the first? [more inside]

Who were these amazing indie rock / modern dance performers?
Autumn 2012 I saw a remarkable show in NYC that was a blend of live indie rock and choreographed dance, with the 5-6 member group performing both components simultaneously. I think they were touring as a band rather than it being an ongoing production at that theater. I have a nagging suspicion it was part of that year's CMJ Music Marathon, but it was definitely as much a dance performance as it was an indie-rock concert. Help me figure out who they were and, if possible, the title of a specific song. Details: [more inside]
Athletic/performance clothing that looks like streetwear?
With autumn having arrived, my thoughts have turned towards beefing up my wardrobe, which hasn't been touched in a few years. More below the fold, but in essence, I am looking for performance clothing that doesn't look like it - I want performance clothing that looks like streetwear. [more inside]

Cool cultural offerings during this pandemic?
I'm looking for a 90th birthday gift for my grandma. She's a huge history buff and also normally a frequent patron of art museums. I remember hearing some news stories in passing a couple months ago about creative ways that artists/musicians/museums/etc were reaching out to people virtually, but I'm not turning up much with google (maybe bad search terms). Any recommendations for something like this? I'm vaguely imagining like a virtual performance or some kind of online special museum access (or maybe something totally different).

My grandmother is blind. Help me find performances with DVS for her.
My 95-year old grandmother just lost the last remnants of her sight. Between the coronavirus and her general frailty, she's essentially homebound with my aunt and uncle. They have access to standard streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+) as well as the National Library Service for the Blind, but I just realized that the NT Live youtube releases include DVS and so she can enjoy them. Are there any other arts / theater / performance groups that are releasing more work online during COVID-times that also include DVS? Or any streaming services that offer DVS on many of their shows? Vary keyboard sequence/arpeggio tempo during performance/playback?
I'm probably buying a music keyboard/synthesizer soon. I'm excited to discover that many of them have (and let you create) pre-recorded/sequenced arpeggios/song sections that let one perform with a cool backing sound. I'm used to expressing emotion in performance partly by varying tempo -- is it possible to vary these sequences/song sections' playback tempo expressively while they are playing back? [more inside]

Find my quote on performance expectations
Years ago, I remember reading a quote about performance expectations. It was something about how we think we judge our standards by the best work we receive, but our actual standard is the lowest quality work that we accept. I think the line was in a book about teaching (and so the context was about teachers setting the standard as the worst student work that they would pass or would not require to be resubmitted). I have no clue how to track down this quote!

How to request a long overdue pay raise?
With a scheduled performance review coming up, it has been suggested to ask ahead of time for a rate increase. What is the normal timing for this? The company has had some difficulties and for several years had a freeze on salaries. Currently working at the same rate for the last 3 years, with an excellent record and 12 years with the same company. Is asking for a 10G increase on 80G reasonable? Last increase was 5G.
