It is understandably difficult to find the right tags to check for yourself and I keep getting asked, so, pinned post.

Another fanart for @tenspontaneite‘s Paper Cranes fanfic.
I always wanted to draw Hikaru & Utagawashi’s first meeting, maybe because I want to try drawing the Kariginu and tate-eboshi (Kamo No Akira and Konoe No Hikaru crossed my mind). Also the Shinto shrine.
The image of Utagawashi in my head is “careful, a bit timid Kannushi but nevertheless a pretty normal-looking man”, so I tried to draw him as such. His expression here is anything but normal though. Probably because he saw Hikaru like this due to Hikaru’s circumstances:
Sorry for the small-res… it was supposed to be just doodles anyway. Might as well my only digital inktober. As I thought, I love black and white the most. A for updates of my own life, I’ll put it on the tags where it belongs.

Bonus: Shindou Hikaru and Utagawashi Kichirou’s budding friendship
“Being near me makes you feel physically ill? Then suffer!”
@kurohaai I think you might actually kill me but god, what a way to go. Like, you keep dropping art bombs on me and I am by no means complaining but I didn't find the mental fortitude to do anything but outwardly wheeze and inwardly shriek for what has to be at least a minute after I saw this.
You've actually drawn Utagawashi very similar to how I picture him. I'd say I always pictured him with a slightly longer face, but yeah, that's alarmingly accurate as it is.
Your talent astounds me and a part of me ascended to the heavens at the sight of that last bonding panel.
And a mere five months later, I continue my series of Literal Essays on @tenspontaneite‘s Hikaru no Go fic, Paper Cranes. Despite the long wait, I plan to continue these for a while yet (even if I didn’t take nearly enough notes four months ago when I was brainstorming these, wtf me) but since Paper Cranes itself is going to go on for a while, I’m not going to promise any kind of frequent schedule. Also, thanks to @bellachrome for being a wonderful cheer squad, and tenspontaneite for answering all of my inane questions :)
Spoilers for up to chapter 23 of this wonderful fic that you should absolutely read before checking out my essay. (I’m not biased at all, what are you talking about?)
Another delightful essay, and how lovely to receive it a mere day before the second Paper Cranes anniversary! This one made me giggle, I must admit. It’s really interesting to hear the perspective of a reader who...you know, isn’t me, and therefore isn’t privy to the mental processes behind the various twists in Paper Cranes. I do hear from a lot of people that Paper Cranes takes them by surprise a lot, which is nice, and also that the surprises seem entirely fitting and right in retrospect, which is even nicer. I pray it remains so for the events to come.
At any rate, I’ve got some fun surprises to pull out of my sleeves in this arc. I’m rather looking forward to it.
It makes so much sense, but it’s bullshit.
(how I imagine Yashiro’s expression near the end of ch.23)
Hikaru’s stress, and also actions, begin to catch up to him.
Chapter warnings: stress, negative thinking. More detail in end notes.
Writing Hikaru being emotionally exhausted is making me feel emotionally exhausted. Funny how that works out.
The Great Edit of June is complete, and so is the masterpost I've been working on for a while now.
The Paper Cranes page contains links to all Paper Cranes versions, Tumblr chapters, extra content, and fan content. It will be updated as new content is created.

Hahaha how funny would it be if doing all that MS research for paper cranes helped get me a job
Hikaru has a number of unpleasant conversations.
Chapter warnings: Hospitals, discussion of wounds, covers topics of terminal illness. If you want more information on that last thing, see the end notes.
Happy holidays, all! Those of you who feel like reading arguments for Christmas, be my guest. Have fun!
Partial chapter 22: in which Hikaru and Akira have a disagreement.
Hikaru wakes.
Warnings for: hospital stay, detailed discussions of injuries, surgery, discussions of permanent loss of manual range of motion.
So, a few people were asking about the damage to Hikaru’s hands, and also the ‘permanent injury’ part of the chapter 20 warning.
I took my bokken and gamed it out using my desk chair as a Kaminaga stand-in, with a pen to mark the approximate cut locations. This is just the cuts, though - for a number of reasons, you can expect the actual scarring to be much thicker.
A demon comes.
Warnings for: minor character deaths (OCs), horror, body horror, possession, gore (sort of), blood, permanent injury, dissociation. I think that covers everything.
(Happy Halloween!)
This is the Paper Cranes short bonus chapter that I’ve been working on for nearly a year. Warnings for: possession, mind control, blood, horror.
Takes place: Latter section of Chapter 19 - Yokohama, Friday 31st October 2003, sometime after 3am.
Hikaru meets a monk.
(Foreword: Penultimate chapter of the story arc, nearly double length. I strongly recommend listening to this starting at the first shrine scene.)
Hikaru makes an unappealing decision.
