Some GREAT sax work on Grover Washington's first few albums on the KUDU label, releasedfrom 1971 to 1973. My favorite of his was his version of Marvin Gaye's "Inner City Blues."A guy who died way too young at 56.

Excellent choice, Double.
I saw both Washington as well as Gaye play in Colorado in the 70's.
My group of friends were big fans of both of those very creative artists.
Truly sad losses, but they created mighty good music while they were alive.

My personal Favourite would have to be the solo by Clarence Clemons in "Born to Run"
I was wondering if any of you knew where to find some good Rock charts for the saxophone.

Two of my favorite jazz sax players are Gerry Mulligan and Stan Getz. They both recorded on Verve. Any of their recordings are worth seeking out.

The sax by Bobby Keyes with the Rolling Stones is great.
Yes, Getz remains timeless.
As for oldies, there's a powerful sax on "Sea Cruise", sung by Frankie Ford. The sax makes me want to jump up and start dancing.
One I've liked for many years is Pharoah Sanders, especially in The Creator Has A Master Plan. Very mellow sax.

There is a lot of good music on this thread.
Nothing sounds quite like a sax:
The other day I listened to this Taj Mahal favorite from 2002.
It's Rudy Costa on sax.

Older song, but played fairly recently, highlighting the sax, with Freddy Vidgor--the Average White Band.
(I find the vocals kind of annoying, but they taper off.)

Johnny Griffin-All The Things You Are
However you can't go wrong with either of them.
Charlie Parker,Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young deserves a mention too.
