What other Alto players do you like Burdell?
Yes, I've often felt with much of Wood's music you can actually hear a lyric from the horn.
I'm probably more a tenor fan but alto wise I like James Moody, Paul Desmond, Bud Shank, Julian Adderly, 'Bird', among others
Love the sax at the end of The Band's "It Makes no Difference". Also love Clarence Clemons, especially on "Meeting Across the River" and "Bobby Jean". The sax on "Tender Years" by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band also kicks quite a bit of ass.
One of my favorites...Charlie Barnet's "Cherokee/Redskin Rhumba" solo from the album he and his band released in 1958. People might have thought the Big Band era was long gone. But listen to this track or any other on this album and you can tell by the way these guys played that they sure didn't think so.
The Rolling Stones utilized sax solo's to great effect on a number of classic tunes ....Live With Me (1969) ....Can You Hear Me Knocking (1971) ...also Pink Floyd's .....Money (1973) ...and Us and Them (1973) ...and my personal fav ...The Doors hit single...Touch Me released Nov 1968 went to #1 Jan '69
