Chess pieces all over the table!

I have a simple wooden chess set I like (img here), approximately 12x12" with very nice slender pieces that are a bit too light for my shortish and stubby fingers. What would you suggest I use to add a little weight under the wooden pieces? Assume your regular wooden chess piece with felt glued to the bottom. The shorter-heavier and easier to get the better, I'll figure out the attaching the things! Thanks!

The weight of the world... on wheels.

So, I've wanted an e-bike for a while now, but I'm a giant 6'4"+ middle-aged dude, and the weight limits of almost all of the bikes are lower than my current weight (not by a huge amount, less than 50 pounds). I found a great deal on a quality e-bike with a weight limit lower than my current weight. Let's say that I got it. Is there any real risk? Is it just plain going to break, or should I just assume there's just the weirdness of invalidating the warranty, getting less range and putting some added wear and tear on it?

Finding peace with food

[Trigger warning] I’m a healthy weight but my relationship with food is kind of disordered. I go between eating “normally” for months and slowly gaining weight, and then losing it quickly with an unhealthy level of restriction. I’m in the middle of a diet phase right now and realizing that I’ve sort of lost the plot. I just want to find peace and stability with food. [more inside]

How stringent are weight limits?

My wife and I are shopping for an inflatable tandem kayak. A good number of them have a 400 lb. weight limit. We just happen to weigh exactly 400 lbs when you put us together. So, just how hard and fast are those weight limits? We don't want to sink in the middle of a lake, but there are some really nice kayaks out there with 400 lb weight limits.

A question of weight and feelings

My family has generally been on the heavier side, and my mom has a... not good relationship with regards to her body and dieting and I have complicated feelings about all of the above. I was thin as a teen, but as I have aged, I have slowly gained weight despite exercising, eating fairly healthy, etc. Today, at 31, I got my first lecture from my doctor about needing to lose a little bit of weight for my health. I really don't want to do what my mom did and diet indefinitely (and harshly) with no real results and increasingly bad body image. How can I healthily approach this? [more inside]

When did kitchen scales become prevalent in Europe?

Measuring ingredients by weight instead of volume has become more common in North American kitchens only in recent years (I think the US and Canada are similar in this regard), while it’s long been standard practice in much of Europe. So when did home cooks in European countries and other parts of the world begin using kitchen scales en masse? I can imagine it may have been linked to metrication to some extent, but I believe weights were typical in UK recipes (for example) well before the metrication of consumer goods there.

Another question about weighing down paper lol

I'm often typing on a laptop while referring to a book. I also sometimes want to photograph things from books. Seeking parenting advice from people who grew up fat

My husband and I are fairly thin. Our 7 year old daughter is currently fat. We very much do not give a shit about her weight. This is NOT a question about weight loss or health. We are aware that her weight may change but for *reasons* we think that is unlikely. She is strong and curious and awesome and seemingly without hangups about her body. But we expect this to get more complicated as she gets older and we want to have her back. I'd love to hear from people who grew up fat about what their parents did that was helpful and good and what their parents did that was...not so good as well as any advice you might have for me.
