How do I, a non-programmer, write a script to click in sequence..

Hey, remember me and the shark game...I've kept at it on and off... I want to do the lots of everything thing again. This time I want to get up to a high climate level first. To do this, I want to just click through worlds to get to a high climate level. Can I use some sort of auto-clicker or program something simple myself to do this? So you don't need to know the shark game: THe question is, how do I get my computer to read the screen and repetitively click the right thing. [more inside]

What Now?

Several posts back, I asked if I should try to get my play, (which is being turned into a musical, and which was based on a self-published book) produced in its own right. The responses were clearly toward getting it produced. So (after some fear-based procrastination), I got around to sending requests for information on how to do that to Dramatist, Pioneer, Broadway and Concord play publishers. [more inside]

Adding a script to MacOS 101

Both my personal and work laptops have the M1 chip and I use the HyperDrive 10-in-1 hub to connect two external displays to them. This means a couple times a day I unplug a laptop from its power supply and the hub and plug the other laptop into its power supply and the hub. Plugging in the laptop comes with some lag in the connections to the monitors and my open applications end up on the wrong display. Can I create a shortcut or a script that will let me move an app and its windows to a specific display and maximize it in the window? [more inside]

How to Preserve Formatting

I am trying to combine two documents with different formatting. One is a theater script with its own character, scene, dialogue and screen direction formatting. How to easily get multi-line passages from a text file in Bash?

One of my common Bash scripting patterns is like this: shuf < playingcards.txt | head -n 3 to "draw" 3 random playing cards from a text file with all the card names on separate lines. Is there a similarly simple way to pick three random multi-line passages from a text file? I am OK adding limited special formatting, like opening and closing a multi-line passage with lines of squigglies or something. Thanks!

Configuring Android tablet to load a WiFi device's webpage on startup?

What would the simplest way be to set up an Android tablet to, upon startup, run a script to connect by default to a Raspberry Pi's WiFi access point, and open up a browser window set to a simple webpage URL served off the RPi? This way, the user would just have to turn on RPi, turn on the tablet, and after booting, the tablet would automatically connect to and act as an interface for the wirelessly-connected RPi. Name that Play Script

I'm trying to remember a one-act-type play script I read or saw in the mid 1990s, but given the situation, it was probably a relatively well-known play from anywhere from the 1960s to the 1990s. It is a small, intimate setting. There are four actors, and the entire play takes place at a restaurant table. [more inside]

How can I limit the chances of a writing partner ripping me off?

I'm talking with a couple of potential writing partners for screenplays/scripts. This has some good general information on best practices, but I've always been concerned with one possibility - what if the partner screws me over in some way? Specifically, is there anything (aside from finding someone who seems trustworthy) I can do to limit the possibility of the partner removing my name from a script we worked on together and submitting it as his own?

Is there a name for this script-imitation font phenomenon?

A once-common practice at ethnicity-specific restaurants (in America) seems to be the use of a font that evokes some aspect of the native script of that ethnicity. Three questions about this: (1) Is there a name for this phenomenon? (2) Is it generally regarded as appropriation? (3) Does it occur in scripts other than Roman (or near-Roman scripts like Greek and Cyrillic) as well? Like, are there Japanese Indian restaurants with names written in Devanagari-imitating katakana, or British pubs in Israel which have especially "Roman" Hebrew letterforms, or somesuch? [more inside]

How to make a perl script work for me

text that reads to different words depending on direction

What is it called when a word (or short phrase) is written in such a way that when reading it one way it says one thing, but then when you flip it upside down it reads something else (or even maybe the same thing)? The "reads different upside" is based upon how it is written (ie. how the letters are formed, creative scripting and connecting of letters, etc), not the letters (ie. the letter "O" reads the same upside down as right side up). I would love to have a ton of examples of this type of thing. [more inside]
