Fabric type question

I'm trying to find a particular fabric and am drawing a blank. I'm looking for a 100% rayon fabric, to make an extra large sarong. I bought the original fabric locally more than 10 years ago, but the shops here don't have anything similar (and haven't for at least the last three years) so I'm trying to find it online and also having no luck - I suspect my search terms are the problem. I'm in Australia but desperate enough to order overseas if I can get the right stuff. [more inside]

Non-cotton embrodiery cloth beginner patterns?

Hello all, I cannot seem to find any non-cotton (zero cottons) embroidery cloth with beginner patterns? (I am based in Canada). I would like to try embroidery, but I am sensitive/allergic to cotton fabric, I know linen is another popular fabric, but I cannot seem to find any beginner patterns specifically with linen or that are not cotton? The cloth can be any colour, as long as it is not cotton-made fabric.

What makes some kinds of cotton attract cat-fur so strongly?

I have a cat. The fur gets everywhere. Say I have two shirts or two bed-sheets, ostensibly both 100% cotton, where one acts like a powerful & tenacious magnet for the fur but the other does not: why is that so? Is it to do with the type of weave? The way the fabric has been chemically treated (or not)? Is it an electrostatic thing? When buying shirts & sheets in future, I would prefer them not to be fur-magnets: what should I be taking into consideration when purchasing?

Needle for stretchy fabric...with interfacing?

So I bought some "liquid metal" fabric for some accent on a quilt. The pattern advises to use interfacing. The person at the fabric store advised that I get a needle for stretchy fabric to use on the liquid metal fabric. So I got the needle, but quick question: will that needle still go through when there's interfacing? Also, I'll be piecing the liquid metal+interfacing on to regular cotton, so what kind of needle to use then?

Help me adapt this quilt pattern because I'm out of fabric...

I'm making this quilt. I have the first two columns done -- so four stacks of strips. Two are all white (the left edge of the quilt) and one is mostly white (the lower left corner of the tree). The thing is, I realized I'm not going to have enough white fabric and I can't get more. I can get kind of similar stuff, but given that this is a solid block of colour I feel like a sudden change, even if subtle, will show. Please suggest and comment on ways to camouflage. [more inside]

How can I get wax out of fabric?

I just knocked over a scented candle and it fell onto my dog’s bed (luckily he was not IN the bed or I’d have other, worse, things to worry about) but of course now I have dried wax: on his bed, on my area rug, on my couch. Please tell me there is an easy way to remove this. Also, his bed is new and it does not appear that the cover can come off.

What happened to all the fabric on temu?I

Up until today there was lots of fabric, including lots of quilting fabric on Temu and other sewing supplies, too. Today it's ALL GONE. Vintage Bath Towel, Distinctive Smell

In the 1960s there was one weird towel in the family: It was bath-towel sized, terry (looped), very scritchy, natural light brown color. (Perhaps a decades-older towel, in grandmother's household.) What made it distinctive for young me was the smell. Not old or mildewed stank, more a strong smell intrinsic to the fiber. Haven't met that flavor since. The towel was rough, could have been a sauna-intended towel. Used for beach but seemed more intended for skin scruffing. Flax or linen, or some other treated cotton-adjacent textile? Possibly from Europe.

Do I need to pre-wash the fabric for my quilt's backing and binding?

The front of my quilt is an old bedspread, and has been washed countless times. I'm going to add batting, a back, and binding, and quilt it to turn it into a comforter. Normally I wouldn't pre-wash the fabric, but since the front is already washed do I need to wash the rest? They're 100% cotton, good quality. I'm not worried about the dyes bleeding.

How to prevent viscose from s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g?

I have a viscose shirt that I absolutely adore...for the first two hours that I'm wearing it. Over time it stretches lenghtwise. By the end of the day the hem is two inches lower than when I began. (Under_petticoat_rule has confirmed this.) This wouldn't be a deal-breaker except that the V-neck is also two inches lower and exposes the entire center of my bra. Are there any options to keep it from stretching, or should I resign myself to wearing it two hours a day and no longer?
