Fix outdoor furniture

Easy way to make seamless tile for fabric design in 2024?
I want to make a seamless tile to use to make fabric. Pre-covid, I did this with Photoshop, but now, is there an app or website that makes this easier? Than Photoshop. Or does Photoshop have an easy way to do it now? [more inside]
Women's Iceskates without cotton inner cotton material?
Hello all, I have an allergy/sensitivity to cotton fabric, and I am trying to find women's ice skates (size nine) that can ship to Canada but do not have inner cotton fabric material. Are there any brands that might be cotton-free with their ice skates?
Fabric type question
I'm trying to find a particular fabric and am drawing a blank. I'm looking for a 100% rayon fabric, to make an extra large sarong. I bought the original fabric locally more than 10 years ago, but the shops here don't have anything similar (and haven't for at least the last three years) so I'm trying to find it online and also having no luck - I suspect my search terms are the problem. I'm in Australia but desperate enough to order overseas if I can get the right stuff. [more inside]
Non-cotton embrodiery cloth beginner patterns?
Hello all, I cannot seem to find any non-cotton (zero cottons) embroidery cloth with beginner patterns? (I am based in Canada). I would like to try embroidery, but I am sensitive/allergic to cotton fabric, I know linen is another popular fabric, but I cannot seem to find any beginner patterns specifically with linen or that are not cotton? The cloth can be any colour, as long as it is not cotton-made fabric.
Tailoring clothes 101
As a plus size person, it's difficult for me to find clothes in my size that I really like. I would like to remedy this by buying loose fabric and getting them made into clothes for me by a tailor. I have questions about this endeavour. [more inside]
What makes some kinds of cotton attract cat-fur so strongly?
I have a cat. The fur gets everywhere. Say I have two shirts or two bed-sheets, ostensibly both 100% cotton, where one acts like a powerful & tenacious magnet for the fur but the other does not: why is that so? Is it to do with the type of weave? The way the fabric has been chemically treated (or not)? Is it an electrostatic thing? When buying shirts & sheets in future, I would prefer them not to be fur-magnets: what should I be taking into consideration when purchasing?
Needle for stretchy fabric...with interfacing?
So I bought some "liquid metal" fabric for some accent on a quilt. The pattern advises to use interfacing. The person at the fabric store advised that I get a needle for stretchy fabric to use on the liquid metal fabric. So I got the needle, but quick question: will that needle still go through when there's interfacing? Also, I'll be piecing the liquid metal+interfacing on to regular cotton, so what kind of needle to use then?
Help me adapt this quilt pattern because I'm out of fabric...
I'm making this quilt. I have the first two columns done -- so four stacks of strips. Two are all white (the left edge of the quilt) and one is mostly white (the lower left corner of the tree). The thing is, I realized I'm not going to have enough white fabric and I can't get more. I can get kind of similar stuff, but given that this is a solid block of colour I feel like a sudden change, even if subtle, will show. Please suggest and comment on ways to camouflage. [more inside]
How can I get wax out of fabric?
I just knocked over a scented candle and it fell onto my dog’s bed (luckily he was not IN the bed or I’d have other, worse, things to worry about) but of course now I have dried wax: on his bed, on my area rug, on my couch. Please tell me there is an easy way to remove this. Also, his bed is new and it does not appear that the cover can come off.
What happened to all the fabric on temu?I
Up until today there was lots of fabric, including lots of quilting fabric on Temu and other sewing supplies, too. Today it's ALL GONE. Like not a single jelly roll or charm pack as far as the eye can see. No fabric. No zippers. No interfacing. No rotary cutters. If I go into my orders and click on the listings for items I ordered previously, they're all discontinued. Why? [more inside]
Vintage Bath Towel, Distinctive Smell
In the 1960s there was one weird towel in the family: It was bath-towel sized, terry (looped), very scritchy, natural light brown color. (Perhaps a decades-older towel, in grandmother's household.)
What made it distinctive for young me was the smell. Not old or mildewed stank, more a strong smell intrinsic to the fiber. Haven't met that flavor since.
The towel was rough, could have been a sauna-intended towel. Used for beach but seemed more intended for skin scruffing. Flax or linen, or some other treated cotton-adjacent textile? Possibly from Europe.
Where can I get this wool fabric?
My partner's One True Skirt is made from a nice durable light wool fabric, and we want more of it for making more skirts. Where can we get it? We usually work with whatever secondhand fabric we can find, so buying new fabric is a learning experience! [more inside]
I bought some small plywood chairs, and want to decorate them.
I bought some small bent-plywood chairs and would like to try decorating a couple of them. I really like the look of colorful images heat-pressed onto plywood skateboards and am hoping to acheive something similar. [more inside]
Fashion related events in the Seattle?
One of my kids is very interested in fashion, costumes, unconventional clothing. They loved the costumes in Everything Everywhere All at Once, for example, have amazing skills at thrifting, and have made costumes from scratch for a con. What are some interesting places we could visit in the Seattle area? Museum exhibits, unusual fabric stores, etc.
What should I sew with fake fur?
So (sew), this huge, magnetic, unknown force pulled me from Boston all the way to the New York City garment district. Not only that, but this same force pulled my wallet out of my purse. And it pulled the credit card out of the wallet!! There are just some things beyond my control. The credit card bought a couple yards each of fake fur in black, grey, pink, and white. What should I make with it? Am an intermediate to advanced sewer. Any and all possibilities (garments, bags, etc.) welcome! Thank you!

Breathable, moisture-wicking, but still feels like a cold wet sponge?

I live in Sweden. What I want is in Australia
Thanks to this excellent comment from Too-Ticky, I discovered that IKEA has a fabric Christmas tree in some countries only (not here in Sweden, for example). Alas, that fabric is sold out in the UK and in the Netherlands. It is on sale online via IKEA in Australia. Any ideas about how to get it bought in Australia before January 1, 2022 and sent to me in the new year? There is no hurry about shipping it to me. FYI, the package should be about 600 grams.
What are the physics behind Vionnet's bias cut?
The French fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet (1876-1975) is known for popularizing the use of the "bias cut" to create garments with soft, flowing lines that cling to the body.
What physical forces, on the warp and weft level, are involved in adding elasticity to the fabric, and how do they differ from those forces affecting cross-grain or straight-grain cuts? [more inside]
Thickest, best, most fancy wool felt?
What’s some really nice thick felt? Google says 5mm is pretty thick? I only need <1 yard, so I’m not too concerned about price. It’s a gift for myself to make writing at my desk on my typewriter a little bit more quiet, because I’m moving in with a friend and don’t want to disturb him (as much). I’m not picky about color. Thanks!
What's a beautiful coffee table book on dresses or seamstress stuff?
I know an older woman who just had a second intestinal surgery. Normally I'd send a gift basket of food but not now. And I can't send another post-op gift basket. I know she's a former seamstress so I'd like to send her a beautiful coffee table book on...that stuff. Yeah I don't know the area. But maybe you do. give me a recommendation.
Do I need to pre-wash the fabric for my quilt's backing and binding?
The front of my quilt is an old bedspread, and has been washed countless times. I'm going to add batting, a back, and binding, and quilt it to turn it into a comforter. Normally I wouldn't pre-wash the fabric, but since the front is already washed do I need to wash the rest? They're 100% cotton, good quality. I'm not worried about the dyes bleeding.

How to prevent viscose from s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g?
I have a viscose shirt that I absolutely adore...for the first two hours that I'm wearing it. Over time it stretches lenghtwise. By the end of the day the hem is two inches lower than when I began. (Under_petticoat_rule has confirmed this.) This wouldn't be a deal-breaker except that the V-neck is also two inches lower and exposes the entire center of my bra. Are there any options to keep it from stretching, or should I resign myself to wearing it two hours a day and no longer?
Going batty about batting.
Intermediate sewing filter: Questions about batting. [more inside]

Sometimes a dress isn't just a dress. It's also a plate of beans.
I'm trying to sew a dress for the first time. I'm using a Butterick pattern (B4443 dress E) and sewing by hand. I'm currently making a muslin, but the final dress will be made of shweshwe (woven cotton), and Bemberg lining (woven viscose). I have questions about seam finishes, thread, and knots, especially as regards strength vs. bulk. Any other advice also welcome! Halp. [more inside]
A Question For Designers Using Spoonflower
There used to be a way to see your ranking in the Spoonflower design challenges. Even if you weren't one of the top designs, there used to be a way to see all the designs in order of how many votes they received. Now I can't find this, only the top 70 designs. If anyone knows how to see all the results, could you link me or explain to me where I can find that? Thank you!

Good replacement for Muji recycled yarn socks?
My spouse and I are seeking a replacement for Muji recycled yarn socks. These socks "are discontinued and will not be back in stock". He really loves these - help us find a suitable replacement? [more inside]

Where do I find this material?
As promised, I am making a stuffed puffin to ~100% scale. I need a sample-size quantity of this glow-in-the-dark fabric or similar. It's for the beak, since most people don't have the ability to see ultraviolet light. I don't use Amazon. 6"x6" should be more than enough. Where do I get it? Please advise! [more inside]
What's this fabric?
Can anyone help ID this mystery fabric? Probably cotton canvas or quilting cotton, possibly from a Japanese fabric company as the original source is a sewist located in Europe who likes to use Japanese fabrics.
Where and how should my Thai friend promote her silk business online?
I’m asking on behalf of a friend, based in Bangkok. She sells beautiful handwoven silk and cotton cloth in the Mudmee style, sourced from artisans in Isan, Northeast Thailand. Currently she mainly sells locally, but would like to attract more international custom. I would love to hear your suggestions for where she should be selling and any tips for marketing her business online. [more inside]
My unicorn fabric: Stretchy-squeazy like swimsuit, feels like cotton.
I want to sew a sports bra but I hate the feel of most technical fabrics. I like the feel of cotton. I don't need much moisture wicking. I do need a good amount of lift and squeeze. What fabric should I use? Please be super specific. (Actual unicorn print not required, but if such a thing exists that would be epic.)
Help save my baby blanket
My blanket, which I've had literally all my life, has finally started to unravel. Where do I take it, and what terms do I use to describe what needs to be done?
Where are you buying your fabric online in these unprecedented times?
Difficulty: Canada.
I've been taking this opportunity to improve my sewing skills by making masks (just for myself so far as they are very bad) with old pillow cases and random pieces of fabric I have around. Recently I found a place with elastic in stock and ordered a bunch! But now I need to buy more fabric and I'm having trouble. [more inside]
