Magazine subscription suggestions

I am really enjoying a subscription I was given to The Sun magazine and I would like to subscribe to another magazine or two (physical copies). I especially like articles about topics I haven't really thought about - for example, in Wired magazine a while ago, I read an article about a man designing bowling balls. In The Sun, the most recent issue had an interview with a pop music expert. Short stories and other fiction are good too. I'm not interested in something political for this question. I'm a farmer so I am not looking for more plant-related info even though that is quite interesting. What other subscriptions would you recommend I look into? Thank you!

Help my energetic but novice colleague launch a little E-magazine!

So, a business friend of mine has gotten a grant to do an electronic magazine (mostly essays and news briefs). He knows sweet FA about how to do this. I say he should hire an experienced managing editor, but nope! Oh Lordy, startup culture 🤦 anyway, is there a good introductory document for him to read to get at least a sketchy sense about how to manage writers and assignments and time and pace everything? Thanks!

What are the best New Yorker stories from any era?

As a New Yorker subscriber, I should be leveraging my ability to delve into its back catalog more. What are the best things that you have read in the New Yorker from any year? I don’t care about having to dig into the weird archive of old scans - any story from any era would be great. (If you know the actual year, that will be very helpful in looking the story up.) Thanks!

Market rate for hiring a freelance editor for a nonfiction essay?

Let's say that someone had a project that involved a nonfiction feature piece of 4000 words for a well-known venue, starting now and aiming to finish by January, with 2 collaborators involved in the writing. If the collaborators were looking to hire a freelance editor to do developmental work + editing for craft for this project, what would be a fair rate to pay, and how would it be paid? Train Magazine - Looking for a Table of Information from an Issue

In an article of Train Magazine (a strength training magazine) there was a table of percentage gains in strength to expect if training with a particular schedule over a particular period of time. For example “week 3 of training 3 times a week, 5% gain in lifts compared to first session in week 1”. The table actually showed percentage gains in each training session over a base session rather than it being written out in words as I have done above. Does anyone have a copy of this magazine or this particular table? Thanks

But, I've never seen the hard copy magazine to get a sense of the overall tone of the print magazine, and whether it is really pitched to older teens (say 16+), or whether it would be ok for a younger teen who can read articles at the level of the one I linked. How does one become a literary magazine editor?

Hello. I am wondering how can one become a literary magazine editor? How do you build your way to the top? What degrees and skills should I be aiming for? I know a lot of online literary editors are mostly voluntary positions. Yet, this is something I have always wanted to do -- I just do not know where to start exactly. I was recently accepted to become a volunteer reader for an online literary magazine and that is probably the lowest ranking -- I guess one must build a gradual pace up the literary ladder. I cannot really afford to start my own online literary magazine since it can cost quite a bit. Maybe finding people that wish to start one might be an idea. I am eager to hear people's opinions constrictive and criticisms. Thank-you.

Can I make some side money spearheading an online literary magazine?

I am wanting to start an online literary magazine on the side while I pursue a MFA and intern in the coming fall. I am wondering if it is worth starting a literary magazine to make some pocket change? I know some magazines struggle, and I am wondering if there's any advice on how to make an ample amount? My first aim was non-profit, but there isn't much money in it, unless donations are given. I suppose it depends on the philosophical motive. I want to share and preserve the literary works, but I also want to make some money while doing this. Literarure and poetry are my two greatest passions. It's a lot of work to design and market this out of free labour; I do a lot of volunteer work myself, bur some extra cash with this project is something I would like to pursue. Some people may not view literary magazines as a business franchise while others may do so. Thoughts? Thanks, RW.
