Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Roger Staubach's NFL 3 Packs

1994 Roger Staubach: This is the last of these which I've been sharing over the last year and a half plus.  I'll really miss these. One of my favorite sets.  We'll kick it off with Jack Lambert who looks like he wants to kick somebody's butt.  Has to be before the first snap.  His uniform is way too clean.  His trophy case is filled to the brim and man did he scare the heck out of opponents.  Big fan.
Love all the all-time greats we get in this set.  Many from past generations you'll never see again on cardboard.  The design is so simple but it works.  The players take center stage.  Love the muted Buck Buchanan photo showing the missing tooth.  Screams a tough guy in the trenches.
The inserts let us see some of the greats on other cards.  Three amazing QBs here in nice photos. We have Etched in Stone and Golden Arms.
They had no idea of the legacy Bret Favre would leave when this Dawning of a Legacy card was made.  He had just finished the third season of his Hall of Fame career.  The POGs are great additions to the set in card form.
A few players I'd never heard of like Andy Robustelli.  Props to anyone who knew of this defensive stalwart from the 50s and 60s.  Six-time All-Pro by the way and nice photo.
I enjoy seeing the coaches get their due on these Chalkboard Legends inserts.
These are great cards and players.  So much fun and so many memories.  Wish we could see more sets like this one.  We'll end it with some of the great arms, and legs, from the game.

1994 Ted Williams Baseball (4 Packs)

1994 Ted Williams: We'll kick off these packs with the man the set is from, Teddy Ballgame.  What can you say about this guy.  Amazing hitter that never disappointed.  His career .344 batting average and .482 on base percentage really stand out to me.  The latter is the best all-time for a career.  I do think Ted Williams owned the company that made these cards.
I paid less than $1 a pack for 20 of these packs which I'll show off over time.  The fronts aren't bad but it is so hard to read the player names.  Team logos from the eras of each player would have been a nice touch as well but overall, they are solid.  Red Schoendienst, Eddie Matthews and Walter Johnson grace these three.  Fun seeing greats of the game on newer cardboard.  Also liked both styles here which shows older players with a muted photo in the background as well as the primary photo.
The Campaign cards showcased youngsters in the game.  Johnson was great defensively, a 2X all-star and won a World Series title while Michael Tucker had a career spanning 12 seasons hitting .256 over that timeframe.
I really like the Women of Baseball inserts which true to the title showcase the women who played professionally.  Etched in Stone displays career highlights of players.  This card talks about Maris' 1961 season and the toll it took on him.  A little different take but a good read.
Swingin' for the Fences are fun speaking to specific hitting performances of baseball greats.  I wasn't familiar with Joe Adcock's accomplishment.  Seeing thing I don't know about the sport is fun.
These Gene Locklear Collection inserts are pretty cool.  The art isn't perfect but it works for me.  Eight players in this portion of the set which is a continuation of a 1993 Ted Willams baseball insert set.
Goin' North looks at players at the beginning of their MLB career.  That Brian Hunter is part of the Dan Gardiner Collection inserts which includes a Michael Jordan insert.  Tim Salmon and Cliff Floyd are both showcased in the Dawning of a Legacy cards.  I'm a Tim Salmon fan so I'm in.  Both were worthy inclusions.
Here we have the backs of two MLB players as well as one of the ladies best.  The backs are good.  I like write-ups and enjoy seeing the best five seasons in stats.
The Negro Leagues are a great inclusion in this set.  So many great players who would otherwise not get time on cardboard.
These are fun.  Good variety, not all the players are ones you'd expect, and it's great seeing all these all-time greats.  I look forward to showing off more of these over time.

Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Roger Staubach's NFL 3 Packs

1994 Staubach:  Showing off more of this really cool set.  Dick Butkus passed away in October.  He's remembered as a hard hitter but also had a pretty good run in television and movies.  A member of two All-Decade teams he was also a five-time All-Pro.
These cards are so much fun.  So many greats who older generations grew up with.  The memories alone make this set so much fun.  I loved Steve Largent as a kid.  Archie Manning was someone I liked as well but I rarely got to see him play.  Largent was of course a Hall of Famer and his teams did make it to the playoffs four times during his career.
Nice Sonny Jurgensen card in that old Redskins uni.  Interesting that the photo in the background has him in the more familiar Redskins helmet.  Favre and O'Donnell were featured in the Dawning of a Legacy inserts.
Great quarterbacks keep on coming.  Sammy Baugh was ahead of his time as a passer and led the league in so many categories throughout his career while setting a ton of records.  He also won two championships as the Washington QB.  One of those was in his rookie year.  He played 16 seasons for the Redskins.  He also played defensive back and finished with 31 interceptions for his career. Must see NFL Hall of Fame video can be seen here (2 minutes).
A couple of coaching greats and one of the first running stars of the game, Red Grange.
Putting pogs on a card was a stroke of genius.  Love it.
Some defensive greatness and one of the top runners in the history of the league.  This set is so much fun.

Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Roger Staubach's NFL (3 Packs)

1994 Roger Staubach:   Finally get to showcase Roger Staubach in one of these posts.  I grew up in New Mexico and the Cowboys were king and this guy was everything to the franchise.  What a great man and player.  I'm a huge fan.  I was also a fan of the blue jersey though they weren't in vogue back then.  I actually had a Tony Dorsett blue jersey as a kid.
Big fan of this set.  So many great players from the league.  Many you won't see anywhere else.  Hall of Fame player after Hall of Fame Player.  Jim Otto and Bronko Nagurski.  Too cool.
Not a lot of inserts but the Golden Arms give you another look at great quarterbacks while Path to Greatness shows greats in their college unis. YA with the no face mask look How did those guys survive?
Pogs were a thing and they did them well in this set.  On cards they fit well and can be easily stored and dsiplayed like cards.
And we get greatness in the form of coaches as well.
Dawning of a Legacy showcase Brett Favre and Neil O'Donnell.  Yes Neil O'Donnel.  I don't get it either.
Some defensive line greatness and a guy they chased around a time or two, Bert Jones.  Jones was popular and had three really good years with the Colts.  These packs are so much fun.

Random Wax: 1994 Ted Williams Roger Staubach's NFL (3 Packs)

1994 Roger Staubach Football:   We'll kick this one off with Buccaneer great Lee Roy Selmon.  His career was cut short due to a herniated disc but was a nightmare for quarterbacks in his nine seasons with Tampa Bay.  He was drafted first overall by the Buccaneers in the 1976 NFL Draft.
This set is so much fun as it shows off so many greats of the game that we don't normally see on cardboard today.  I enjoyed Jim Zorn as a youngster.  A lefty who could run and throw it was fun.
Classic Staubach stance as he readies to pass.
Seeing these coaches again is fun.  That look of Tom Landry is a classic.  Would like to see what that card would look like as the dominant photo in this design.
Still don't' get Neil O'Donnell's inclusion in this set.  Way too many great quarterbacks in 1993 that would have been better picks.
Yes we have pogs.  Kind of fun.  Not something I got into but I like they are part of a card which helps in storing them.
Some great receivers from the past.  Nice way to end this post.  These are so much fun and I really enjoy showing them off.

1994 Ted Williams Roger Staubach's NFL (3 Packs)

1994 Roger Staubach NFL:   I picked up a pack lot of these recently and I'll show them off three packs at a time.  These are fun cards that for the most part show off legends of days past which is great.  We'll kick it off with Fran Tarkenton who was born in the wrong era.  He's one of the first running quarterbacks, before it was a thing, and took the Vikings to three Super Bowls in his career.  So fun to watch.  He rushed for 3674 yards in his career which is still good for 7th all-time amongst QBs.
I like the design.  It's simple with a nice full color photo and a subdued photo in the background.  Again the appeal here is seeing retired greats on new cardboard.  It's awesome.  The majority aren't Hall of Famers but if you grew up watching these players, like I did, you're stoked to see them here.  Ken Anderson and Billy "White Shoes" Johnson are two of the guys I was excited to find in the set and I definitely remember LeRoy Irvin.
You don't get full career stats but you do get the player's top five seasons which is fair enough.  I like the backs.  There's color, random flags I don't quite get, player info, and a nice write-up.  I like these.
Two of the inserts I pulled included Dawning of a Legacy and Chalkboard Legends.  Farve and O'Donnell are the two modern players they included in the set.  O'Donnel was an odd inclusion as there were plenty of great quarterbacks back then to choose from while he was still pretty early in his career and not exactly tearing it up. Elway, Young, Kelly, Aikman.  Maybe "Dawning of a Legacy" doesn't fit all those guys but still, just saying there were other options.
I didn't get to see all of these guys play, like Hall of Fame DB Lem Barney, but it doesn't matter.  I was still excited. Wesley Walker was a receiver I loved back in the day.  He played his entire 13 years with the Jets.
Golden Arms showcases great passers in league history and are good looking cards.
Each pack comes with pogs (two per card).  I'm not a pog guy but I like that these are part of cards, which I like, and didn't come already separated in the pack.
Who doesn't love Art Donovan?  These cards are a great trip down memory lane.  The Jim Thorpe Auckland Collection insert is numbered 015921.  Not sure what the print run is on these but I really like the art and it's easy to forget Thorpe is a football legend as he played from 1920-1928.  It'll be fun showing off the other packs over the coming months.
