Definitions

  • Multifunctional medical side-turning nursing bed belongs to the field of medical equipment and can be used for care of bedridden patients with full or partial disability at home and in medical institutions.
  • Multifunctional medical nursing beds are most necessary and valuable to people, who through their disability, overweight or age are unable to move in the bed or turn from side to side in bed so as to avoid bedsores and any other medical complications or infections. Turning such patients periodically in the usual manual mariner is a cumbersome and time consuming process for caregivers. Furthermore, the patients rather often can be seriously injured, their limbs can be dislocated. Moreover, such care often causes enduring health problems to the caregivers, such as spinal disc herniation, various strains and other medical complications. Consequently, such nursing beds that can mechanically turn the bedridden patients with special needs from side to side in bed were developed. Turning from side to side can be performed by a patient or by caregivers manually as required or in certain time intervals set in advance.
  • Multifunctional medical side-turning nursing beds are already known and many alternatives have been developed before. Principles of their operation were very different: from the division of the bed surface (or a mattress) into separate moving parts to additional accessories that could imitate a principle of a cradle in order to rum a patient from side to side. Below you will find several already existing technical solutions performing side-turning functions.
  • the most proximate technical solution with respect to the functional purpose is a side- turning bed which can be tilted mechanically to turn a bedridden patient from side to side.
  • the tilting assembly is embodied so that a frame supporting the mattress is divided into at least three moving parts: a centre section with an outer sections being so linked and pivotally connected that when the centre section is tilted, the outer section(s) adjacent the raised side of the centre section is/are tilted as one with the centre section, and the outer section(s) adjacent the other side of the centre section pivot(s) relative thereto.
  • the centre section of the bed is pivotally supportable from the bed frame, and can be tilted by a lever secured at one end to the centre section, the other end of the lever being freely moveable to tilt the centre section (see US 4084274 A, A61G7/00, 1978).
