Description
本発明の液晶配向剤は下記式(1)及び(2)のジアミンを含有するジアミン成分と、テトラカルボン酸誘導体との反応により得られるポリイミド前駆体及びそれをイミド化して得られるポリイミドから選ばれる少なくとも1種の重合体を含有する液晶配向剤であることを特徴とする。
上記式(1)及び(2)のジアミンを含有するジアミン成分と、テトラカルボン酸誘導体との反応により得られるポリイミド前駆体は、以下のように表すことが出来る。
本発明の液晶配向剤の合成に用いるテトラカルボン酸誘導体には、テトラカルボン酸二無水物、テトラカルボン酸一無水物、テトラカルボン酸、ジカルボン酸ジアルキルエステル、ジカルボン酸クロライドジアルキルエステルなどが挙げられるが、ジアミンとの反応が進むものであればこれらに限定させるものではない。
式(3)において、Yの少なくとも一部は式(4)及び式(5)の構造であるが、Yはそれらのみに限定されるものではなく、その他の構造を含んでもよい。あえて、その他のYの構造の具体例を示すならば、下記のY-1~Y-115が挙げられる。
本発明に用いるポリイミド前駆体であるポリアミック酸は、以下に示す方法により合成することができる。
本発明に用いられるポリイミド前駆体であるポリアミック酸エステルは、以下に示す(1)~(3)の方法で合成することができる。
ポリアミック酸エステルは、テトラカルボン酸二無水物とジアミンから得られるポリアミック酸をエステル化することによって合成することができる。
ポリアミック酸エステルは、ジカルボン酸ジエステルジクロリドとジアミンから合成することができる。
ポリアミック酸エステルは、ジカルボン酸ジエステルとジアミンを重縮合することにより合成することができる。
本発明に用いられるイミド化重合体は、前記ポリイミド前駆体をイミド化することにより製造することができる。ポリイミド前駆体からイミド化重合体を製造する場合、ポリイミド前駆体溶液に塩基性触媒を添加する化学的イミド化が簡便である。化学的イミド化は、比較的低温でイミド化反応が進行し、イミド化の課程で重合体の分子量低下が起こりにくいので好ましい。
本発明に用いられる液晶配向剤は、前記したポリイミド前駆体またはそのイミド化重合体(以下、特定構造の重合体とする)が有機溶媒中に溶解された溶液の形態を有する。特定構造の重合体の分子量は、重量平均分子量で2,000~500,000が好ましく、より好ましくは5,000~300,000であり、さらに好ましくは、8,000~100,000である。また、数平均分子量は、好ましくは、1,000~250,000であり、より好ましくは、2,500~150,000であり、さらに好ましくは、4,000~50,000である。
本発明の液晶配向膜は、上記液晶配向剤を基板に塗布し、乾燥、焼成して得られる膜である。本発明の液晶配向剤を塗布する基板としては透明性の高い基板であれば特に限定されず、ガラス基板、窒化珪素基板、アクリル基板、ポリカーボネート基板等のプラスチック基板等を用いることができ、液晶駆動のための電極等が形成された基板を用いることがプロセスの簡素化の観点から好ましい。また、反射型の液晶表示素子では片側の基板のみにならばシリコンウエハー等の不透明な物でも使用でき、この場合の電極はアルミニウム等の光を反射する材料も使用できる。
本発明の液晶表示素子は、上記した手法により本発明の液晶配向剤から液晶配向膜付き基板を得、ラビング処理などにより配向処理を行った後、既知の方法により、液晶表示素子としたものである。

合成例において、ポリアミック酸溶液またはポリアミック酸エステル溶液の粘度はE型粘度計TVE-22H(東機産業株式会社製)を用い、サンプル量1.1mL、コーンロータTE-1(1°34’、R24)、温度25℃で測定した。
合成例において、ポリアミック酸溶液またはポリアミック酸エステル溶液の固形分濃度の算出は以下のようにして行った。
ポリアミック酸及びポリアミック酸エステルの分子量はGPC(常温ゲル浸透クロマトグラフィー)装置によって測定し、ポリエチレングリコール、ポリエチレンオキシド換算値として数平均分子量(以下、Mnとも言う。)と重量平均分子量(以下、Mwとも言う。)を算出した。

検量線作成用標準サンプル:東ソー社製 TSK 標準ポリエチレンオキサイド(重量平均分子量(Mw) 約900,000、150,000、100,000、30,000)、及び、ポリマーラボラトリー社製 ポリエチレングリコール(ピークトップ分子量(Mp) 約12,000、4,000、1,000)。測定は、ピークが重なるのを避けるため、900,000、100,000、12,000、1,000の4種類を混合したサンプル、および150,000、30,000、4,000の3種類を混合したサンプルの2サンプルを別々に測定。
作製した液晶セルを、60℃オーブン中にてLED光源(10000cd)下で48時間エージングを行った。エージング前後での電圧保持率測定を行い、エージング前は90%以上かつエージング後は85%以上の場合は○、前記特性を満たさないものは×とした。
1Vの電圧を60μs間印加し、100ms後の電圧を測定することで、初期値からの変動をVHR(電圧保持率)として計算した。液晶セルの温度は60℃で測定を実施した。
60℃の恒温環境下、周波数30Hzで相対透過率が100%となる交流電圧を168時間印加した。
プレチルト角の測定を行った。測定にはオプトメトリクス社製 Axo Scan ミュラーマトリクスポーラリメーターを用いた。プレチルトが1.0°未満を○、1.0°以上を×とした。
合成例1~10で得たポリアミック酸溶液またはポリアミック酸エステル粉末を用いて、ポリマー固形分:6wt%、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン:30wt%、γ―ブチロラクトン:44wt%、ブチルセロソルブ:20wt%となる希釈溶液を調整した。この溶液を23℃で5日間放置し、放置前後での粘度変化が10mPa・s未満の場合は○、10mPa・s以上の場合は×とした。
撹拌子を入れた5000mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を174.9g(672.0mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン3153gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを148.7g(1470mmol)、及び(Y-1)を161.2g(700.0mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた3000mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を86.6g(333.0mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン1644gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを76.5g(756.mmol)、及び(Y-2)を87.9g(360.0mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた500mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を12.2g(47.0mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン232gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを10.2g(100.8mmol)、及び(Y-3)を12.4g(48.0mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた500mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を11.0g(42.1mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン220gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを9.14g(90.3mmol)、及び(Y-4)を12.3g(43.0mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた500mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を7.45g(28.7mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン138gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを6.38g(63.0mmol)、及び(Y-1)を5.87g(25.5mmol)、(Y-5)を1.34g(4.5mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた5000mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を114.9g(441.6mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン2226gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを102.0g(1008.0mmol)、及び(Y-2)を99.67g(408.0mmol)、(Y-5)を21.48g(72.0mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた100mLの四つ口フラスコに(Y-1)を8.52g(37.0mmol)取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン112.0gを加え、窒素を送りながら撹拌して溶解させた。このジアミン溶液を撹拌しながら(X-2)を6.89g(35.2mmol)添加し、更にN-メチル-2-ピロリドンを27.7g加え、窒素雰囲気下、23℃で5時間撹拌してポリアミック酸溶液を得た。このポリアミック酸溶液の温度25℃における粘度は436mPa・sであった。また、このポリアミック酸の分子量はMn=18400、Mw=47000であった。
撹拌子を入れた1000mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を23.9g(92.0mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン448gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを21.2g(210mmol)、及び(Y-1)を11.51g(50.0mmol)、(Y-2)を12.21g(50.0mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた1000mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を17.8g(68.4mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン345gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを15.4g(152mmol)、及び(Y-1)を6.12g(26.6mmol)、(Y-2)を9.28g(38.0mmol)、(Y-5)を3.40g(11.4mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
撹拌子を入れた500mLの四つ口フラスコに(X-1)を7.38g(28.4mmol)投入した後、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン140gを加えて撹拌して溶解させた。次いで、トリエチルアミンを6.17g(61.0mmol)、及び(Y-1)を3.51g(15.3mmol)、(Y-2)を2.61g(10.7mmol)、(Y-5)を1.37g(4.58mmol)加えて撹拌して溶解させた。
合成例1で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末1.77gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン27.7gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ9.85gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.34質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例2で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末3.87gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン60.6gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ21.5gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.30質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例3で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末3.51gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン55.0gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ19.5gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.20質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例4で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末3.48gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン54.5gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ19.3gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.20質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例5で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末3.94gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン61.8gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ21.9gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.28質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例6で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末3.25gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン50.9gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ18.1gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.38質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例7で得たポリアミック酸溶液10.3gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに分取し、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン18.7g、ブチルセロソルブ9.68gを加え、マグネチックスターラーで2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.00質量%のポリアミック酸溶液を得た。
合成例8で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末4.10gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン64.2gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ22.8gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.40質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例9で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末3.81gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン59.7gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ21.2gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.41質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
合成例10で得たポリアミック酸エステル粉末4.21gを撹拌子の入った100mL三角フラスコに取り、N-メチル-2-ピロリドン66.0gを加え、室温で18時間撹拌して溶解させた。続いて、ブチルセロソルブ23.4gを加え、2時間撹拌して固形分濃度4.45質量%のポリアミック酸エステル溶液を得た。
Claims (8)
- 上記式(1)のジアミンが、ジアミン成分中の10~90モル%である、請求項1に記載の液晶配向剤。
- 上記式(2)のジアミンが、ジアミン成分中の10~90モル%である、請求項1、2に記載の液晶配向剤。
- 上記テトラカルボン酸誘導体が、構造中に脂肪族構造又は脂環式基構造を含有する、請求項1から請求項3のいずれか1項に記載の液晶配向剤。
- 構造中に脂肪族構造又は脂環式基構造を含有するテトラカルボン酸誘導体が、全テトラカルボン酸誘導体中の10~90モル%である、請求項1から請求項4のいずれか1項に記載の液晶配向剤。
- 上記カルボン酸誘導体が、ジカルボン酸ジエステルである、請求項1から請求項5のいずれか1項に記載の液晶配向剤。
- 請求項1から請求項6のいずれか1項に記載の液晶配向剤を基板に塗布、焼成して得られる液晶配向膜。
- 請求項7に記載の液晶配向膜を有する液晶表示素子。
