Abstract

The present invention relates to a ventilation board for making easier to build ventilated eaves on low-pitched roofs. The prefabricated ventilation board includes a building board (1) and battens (2) fixed to one another to provide a ventilation gap (5) in between.

Description

VENTILATION BOARD
The present invention relates to ventilation board for making easier to build ventilated eaves on low-pitched roofs.
It is previously known to manufacture a ventilated sub-structure under a bituminous or plastic roofing membrane of low-piched roof eaves structures by constructing it in situ from separate battens and building boards.
This previously known method of providing ventilated eaves on low-pitched roofs makes it necessary to deliver a range of building materials to the roof. Additionally, a range of fastenings and tools are required for the completion of job, and the amount of work to be carried out on the roof is high and relatively time-consuming.
Characteristic to the ventilation board in accordance with the invention is that the building board and battens are fixed to one another during prefabrication.
The ventilation board in accordance with the invention offers a number of advantages. When a ventilation board in accordance with the invention is used, the venti- lated eaves structures can be provided on low-pitched roofs with a single building component and type of fastening. As a result, the logistics required to deliver the items to the roof and to handle them is simplified, the amount of work is reduced, and the job can be performed faster.
With the ventilation board in accordance with the invention, it is possible to use lighter materials, thinner battens with smaller centre-to-centre spacing, which permits the use of a thinner building board, usually plywood, as the bridging board. This will offer savings in the cost of building materials, which is another argument for the economic feasibility of prefabrication.
Next, the invention will be explained in more detail with reference to the accompa- nying drawings, in which, figure 1 illustrates one embodiment of the ventilation board in accordance with the invention viewed from the battening side, figure 2 provides an end view of the ventilation board shown in figure 1, and figure 3 illustrates section A-A of the ventilation board shown in the preceding fig- ures.
The bridging board of the prefabricated ventilation board shown in figures 1-3 consists of the standard-size building board 1, which is normally plywood. The size of the batten 2 is selected according to the required size of the ventilation gap. The size of the ventilation gap 5 can be increased by selecting a batten with a higher profile. With a smaller ventilation gap, a batten with a lower profile is sufficient.
The building board and battens are fixed to one another either mechanically (3.) by nailing or screwing (e.g. by using nails or screws) or chemically (4.) by gluing (e.g. by using an adhesive) or by using a combination of these two methods.
Prospective users of the ventilation board in accordance with the invention are roofing contractors making low-pitched roofs with bitumen or plastic roofing membranes.
The ventilation board in accordance with the invention may also be made, in full or in part, of other easy-to-work weatherproof material resistant to high temperatures, such as plastic.
The ventilation board in accordance with the invention is not limited to the above presented advantageous application but it can vary within the frames of the idea of the invention formed in the claims.

Claims

1. A ventilation board for making easier to build ventilated eaves on low-pitched roofs, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the prefabricated ventilation board in- eludes a building board (1) and battens (2) fixed to one another to provide a ventilation gap (5) in between.
2. A ventilation board in accordance with claim 1, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the ventilation board is made of wood or other weatherproof and heat resistant material.
3. A ventilation board in accordance with claims 1 and 2, c h a r a c t e r i z e d in that the battens (2) are inclined, allowing the building board (1) serving as the base of the eaves structure to be placed at an angle relative to the sub- structures to which it is fixed.
