Definitions
- the present invention relates to steam irons where water from a tank flows slowly into a vaporization chamber to be vaporized there in contact with a hot wall.
- Such irons comprise a soleplate having a heating body and a vaporization chamber, a reservoir comprising an upper part and a lower part.
- the lower part constitutes a heat shield which covers the sole, and also constitutes the cover or skirt of the iron.
- the sole has a hot body generally made of cast aluminum and provided with a heating element.
- the ironing surface of the iron is at the lower part of the hot body, which may or may not be covered by a plate having better ironing qualities.
- the hot body constitutes a vaporization chamber, generally closed at the top by a plate, as for example the patent FR2581571 gives a description.
- patent FR2770077 which describes a boiler for household appliance comprising a plastic body with a flat metal heating base provided with a heating element.
- the plastic body of this boiler does not have several functions, which significantly reduces the advantage of this embodiment.
- Known irons require parts for closing the vaporization chamber and connecting parts between the water tank and this chamber.
- the construction does not allow the simple production of steam irons, the sole of which is obtained from metal sheets, without brazing and without using heavy metal molding means.
- the object of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks in order to produce an economical iron.
- a steam iron comprising a heating soleplate, a vaporization chamber, a multi-function part constituting both a heat shield and the skirt of the iron, characterized in that the multi-function part constitutes at least in part the vaporization chamber above the sole.
- the steam iron has a water tank, and the multi-function part constitutes the bottom of the water tank.
- the ribs of the vaporization chamber can come from the multifunctional part and the simplified soleplate, which allows the simple use, in an economical iron, of flat heating elements.
- the multi-function part is made of heat-resistant plastic.
- This room locally accessible to the user, may be hot. It has a low conductivity and effusivity which makes its contact little dangerous with the skin.
- the plastic molding allows complex shapes which facilitate assemblies and fastenings.
- the plastic of the multifunction piece is a polyester or a poly-sulfone.
- the skirt of the iron constitutes the walls of the vaporization chamber.
- the amount of material necessary for the realization is then minimal. Thanks to the low effusivity, less than 1000W m "2 ° C " 1 s 1/2 , of the plastic material, the temperature of contact with the skin is low, and is not dangerous for the user.
- the multifunction piece is in contact with the sole by seals made of elastomer foam.
- the joint then has maximum flexibility which allows good adaptation to differences in expansion.
- the foam is deposited and adheres to one of the pieces to be joined. It is polymerized before assembly. Legs or screws hold the pieces together, compressing the foam. Because the foam has only very low hardness, it adapts well to surface and flatness imperfections without requiring excessive tightening which would be incompatible with the resistance of the parts.
- Foam can be obtained in two ways. Two components which foam and polymerize at the outlet of the nozzle can be mixed in a dispensing nozzle. Such foaming products are supplied for example by the company Wacker. It is also possible to mix a product known for its seal qualities, such as a silicone, with a gas such as nitrogen in a suitable mixer, for example a mixer of the Nordson or Dopag brand, and distribute it on one of the parts to join. The polymerization is obtained more quickly by subsequent heating.
- a suitable mixer for example a mixer of the Nordson or Dopag brand
- the seal between the upper and lower parts of the tank is of the same nature.
- Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a vertical plane of a first iron according to the invention.
- Figure 2 is a partial view in longitudinal section through a vertical plane of a second iron according to the invention.
- FIG. 3 is a partial view in longitudinal section through a vertical plane of a third iron according to the invention.
- FIG. 4 is a half top view in section through a horizontal plane H of the iron of FIG. 3.
- Figure 5 is a partial view in longitudinal section through a vertical plane of a fourth shoe according to the invention.
- FIG. 6 is a half top view in section through a horizontal plane H of the iron of FIG. 5.
- the steam iron 1 comprises a soleplate 2, a vaporization chamber 3, a water tank 4 and a body 5 including a handle.
- a drip 6 controls the passage of the water contained in the reservoir 4 to the vaporization chamber 3.
- An electromechanical thermostat 7 ensures the thermal regulation of the iron.
- the soleplate 2 comprises a heating body 21 made of aluminum provided with a lubricating heating element 211, and a plate 22 made of aluminum or stainless steel assembled mechanically and thermally under the heating body 21, the plate 22 being intended to be in contact with the ironing linen.
- the sole has an essentially flat shape which comprises, on the inner side of the iron, only the reliefs necessary for the coating of the heating element 211 and to some fasteners not shown.
- the upper face 212 of the heating body 21 constitutes a hot wall of the vaporization chamber 3, against which the water coming from the drip 6 vaporizes. This wall may include in the chamber an anti-caléfaction coating.
- the water spray tank 4 has an upper part 41 and a lower multi-function part 8, made of polyester resistant to heat and humidity, forming the bottom of the tank 4.
- the two parts 41, 8 are assembled by a seal 42 of silicone foam deposited in grooves at the top of the part 8.
- the multi-function part 8 constitutes, at the same time as the bottom of the tank 4, the upper wall of the chamber 3 for vaporizing the water and distributing the vapor towards outlet holes 23.
- Other ribs 82, 83 arranged in a similar manner ensure the isolation of the thermostat from the steam as well as the baffles necessary for the steam circuit.
- Grooves are provided at the bottom of the ribs 81, 82, 83 facing the sole 2 and retain seals such as 84 made of silicone foam, adhering to the part 8. Fixings not shown tighten the parts 41, 8, and the sole 2 against each other by compressing all the joints, which ensures sealing between the parts.
- the multi-function part 8 also constitutes the skirt 85 visible between the body 5 and the sole 2 of the iron.
- this design allows a very simple construction of the iron, without a conduit between the tank and the vaporization chamber, and with a soleplate having only a few internal reliefs.
- the construction is economical, thanks to the multiple functions of part 8 which encloses the vaporization chamber.
- the soleplate 2 comprises a flat heating element 211 similar to a heating element described in patent FR2580887.
- the heating circuit 211 is between a lower plate 213 and an upper plate 212 made of aluminum.
- a cap composed of a plate 22 of aluminum or stainless steel is mechanically and thermally assembled under the lower plate 213, the plate 22 being intended to be in contact with the clothes to be ironed.
- the upper face of the plate 212 transfers its heat to the water coming from a drip 6 and evaporates it.
- the steam produced is contained and directed towards the steam holes 23 by the part 8 similar to that of the first version.
- the thermostat can be an electronic thermostat as in the third version represented in FIGS. 3 and 4.
- the part 8 supports the thermostat sensor 71 by means of a spring 72 which keeps it in pressure against the soleplate 2, in order to '' ensure good thermal contact.
- Figures 5 and 6 show a fourth neighboring version, in which the part 8 has walls 86 acting simultaneously as a wall for the vaporization chamber 3 and a wall for the skirt of the iron. This arrangement saves the material of the part 8 and allows a very economical production of iron.
