DESIGN FOR A SETTEE.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Design No. 24,279, dated May 7, 1895.
Application filed February 15, 1895. Serial No. 538,587. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY FALLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middle Village, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Settees, of which the following is a specification.
This design has for its object to provide a handsome and ornamental settee which presents a characteristic and distinguishing appearance to the eye.
The design consists in a back panel having acentral, angular ornament surrounded by arabesque and having a twist border and surmounted by a leaf ornament and arabesque with a wreath.
The design also consists in a scttee having a seat portion the edge of which comprises a twist border with a depending shield or scroll ornaments.
The design also consists in a settee end having a shield or scroll ornament surmounted by arabesque.
The design also consists in a settee having a back panel provided with a central, angular ornament surrounded by arabesque and having a twist border and surmounted by a leaf ornament and arabesque with a wreath, and arabesque surrounded by a twist border and surmounted by a shield or scroll ornaments, a central, circular, or curved ornament surrounded by arabesque and having a twist border surmounted by a scrollornament, a front edge with a twist border and depending shield or scroll ornament, and an end with a shield or scroll ornament surmounted by arabesque.
The design is illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the settee. Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the seat.
The settee back is shown comprising the panels 1, 2 and 3. The panel 1 comprises a central angular ornament 4 surrounded by arabesque 5 and havinga twist border 6 giving the appearance of a strand or rope, the panel being surmounted by a leaf ornament 7 and arabesque 8 to which a wreath 9 will impart a soothing appearance. Each panel 2 comprises an arabesque 10 surrounded by a twist border 11 and surmounted by a shield or scroll ornament 12. Each panel 3 comprises a central circular or curved ornament 13 surrounded by arabesque 14 and having a twist border 15 surmounted by a scroll ornament 16. p
The edge of the seat portion of the settee comprises the twist border or ornament 17 with depending shield or scroll ornaments 18.
The design for the end of the settee comprises the shield or scroll ornaments 19 surmounted by arabesque 20.
The design for the seat comprises the plain or circular perforations 21, with the perforations 22, inwardly projecting lips 23 being placed at said perforations 22. The back rails 24 and 25 are made to join at an obtuse angle and the arm rest is thrown into the curves 26,27 and 28,theleg bracebeingthrown into the curves 29 and 80.
The design provides a handsome settee which presents a distinguishing and characteristic appearance.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,'is
1. In a design for a settee, the design for the back, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for a settee, the design for a seat portion the edge of which comprises a twist border with a depending shield or scroll ornaments, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a design for a settee, the design for the settee end, substantially as shown and described.
4. The design for a scttee, substantially as shown and described.
