JE l. .i
Application le February 20, 1909. Serial No. eiff To all 'whom it mayvconcem.'
Be it known that l, l'YiLLIAM S. AMBER- soN, :i citizen of 'the United States, residing at llfeyneshoro, in the county of Franklin und State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stands for Garbage-Cans, S-c., of which the following is speciiicatio. A
My seid invention consists in en improved construction of stands for garlige cans, Waste and slop pails, and like receptacles, which will support said receptacles in e sanitary manner and provide for keeping them closed to prevent the escape of odors therefrom, end one Whe-rein the cover Will oe automatically locked when closed but muy loe readily lifted Without touching seid cover, all es will be hereinafter' more fully des i'ihed end claimed.
Referring to the `ziccoinp:inying drawings which are mede a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar ports' Figure l is e perspective VView of the stand embodying my seid invention, Fig. 2 e cent-rol vertical section through said stand and the receptacle therein, and Fig. 3 a. detail of ev portion of the top of the reo-eptacle.
The stendis preferably formed of metal end comprises e top in the form of e ring A of engleiron, or other suitable materiel, one tlange of which extends vertically and the other horizontally, es shown. Legs a ere rivetedA to the interior fece of the ven tical iienge, being formed on their lower ends with outwardly curved feet, suitable to afford the support desired. Cross pieces, or a are provided :it he point e dis tence lie-lon the ring1 fi Where they will efoid e support for the receptacle. They ei;- tend from a` leg1 on one side to the opposite leg; and lire riveted to both and also are riveted together it the point Where they cross, es shown, thus providing e very rigid structure and at the sume time a support- -upon Whichthe bottom oi' the receptacle may rest. A cover A is hinged to one side or the. ring on a. pintle @Zend is adapted to close down tightly upon the top surface of ring A. An erin aa is. riveted to seid cover immedietely above said hinge extending upwardly et en angle so that its upper end overhnngs seid hinge slightly. A. foot-lever l2 is ivot-ed et one end as at at, to the toot of one of the legs a immediately beneath the hinge a2 and is connected to the erm es ley,
a eonnectingrod A3 es shown. lever A2 is ni'ched between the end which is pivoted end 'the tree-.d t5 formed on its outer end and isi'orined of n single piece ot round iron, or Wire, of suitable size, doubled et the outer end or treed and its inner end having its points turned inward to engage en eye in the toot of leg,` a to form e hinge at at. i plete au is mounted on the two parts of seid lever e suitable point and provided with en eye i With which the lower end of rod A connects. The upper edge oi' seid plete es e stop tolimit the backward swing of the lever, as shown by dotted lines in ldig. 2, when the cover is closed, in which position. the cover will oe held locked until seid lever is pulled outwardly, es anylifting upon the cover itselil will he resisted hy seid lever, which tends to spring upwardly and hold the cover tightly its seat ell times.
The receptacle B ey he of :my suitable form adapt-ed to 4tit Within the trane ot' the stond end is formed with e. projecting bend, or svvege neer its which adapted to rest upon the inner edge or the ring A., and' prev-ent the of odors from the can W'hen'the can is in e. Closed position. lt is also previded with the usuel heil or handle o for handling'.
.ln use, it being desired to deposit articles o1' subst: in the recepteo B, the `cover A is reise hy forcing haelt treed ci the lever 12 which opereoes through the. 'connecting rod j and the erin a3 to reise s cover from the position shown in dotted linee to tliet sho n in Whole lines. lhen is d sired to c se the re oeptecle the wer is i ed tory beyond the line oi hinge Wnen it will fall heck into the position shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2- end will be there held, es above stated, enf... cover the receptacle so that it. is
practically sealed und the escape of odors prevented.
Heving thus fully descrihed' iny said invention, what l claim new and desire to secure oy Letters Patent, Ais:
l. A eonteinei coniprisinf open stand having e top formed vv" aperture to receive the receptacle, i hi eover for seid aperture, e lever Connected therewith for .operating it, end e receptacle adapted to llt in enertnre under and Said ootward upon the
