LOUIS HOEER, GF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
SANTARY BECEPTACLE.
To all Lc/wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, Louis Horus, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at. Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Receptacles. of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
rThis invention relates vto a sanitary refceptacle that can be used as a garbage can, portable commode, or as a receptacle for carrying or storing odorous matter.
The primary object of the invention is to furnish a receptacle with means in a manner as will bc hereinafter set forth for render ing the receptacle airtight and sanitary, thus preventing the escape oft e-rfurnes from the receptacle and the iniection and "vano/e of persiivns in the Vicinity oi the by fumes or that. would otherape from the i ptacle it it were i it airtight and prtn'ided with e disinf'ecprovide a portable commode that can be advantageou.' used by juveniles, the com- Inode beingl c. l tructed of a size that can be convenientlyr used and yet easily carried when the commode is to be cleansed.
' I att-ain the abo-ve objects by a mechanical fconstruction that is extremely simple, dulrable and etiicientr' for the purposes for which lit, is intended.
VVit-h this understanding of the principle of my invention, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, wherein like nuT merels of reference 'designate corresponding 4@ parts throughout the seiferal views, and in Figure l a side elevation of the recep tacle, Fig. il is a vertical seetional View of the same, Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a portion of the receptacle, '-i a horizontal sectional yiew of the saine.
The reference numeral l denotes a lindrical metallic shell having the lower edge thereof roamed or flanged, as at 2 to receive the reamed or flanged end of a flat metallic bottoni plate 4t. The outer wall of the shell 1 adjacent to the upper end thereof is provided with t-wo diametrically disposed pins 5 and these pins are adapted to engage in the horizontal portions Specification of Letters Patent. v applicaties fue@ september so, iam. serieu No. 584,666.
' horizontal i 1further ob'diect of the invention is to Patented Sept. 3, 1912.
46 of bayonet-shaped slots 7 formed in the lower edges of acollar 8, the said slots being'diamet-rically Qpposed withI the horizontal portion .6 of one slotthe reverse of the portion of the other slot, whereby after the collar has been pushed downwardly With the pins 5 in the ,slots '7 a slight rotation of the collar 8 locks'the same upon the' upper endy of thefshell 1. The upper edges of the collar 8 arev suitably connected, as at 9 to a funnel `10 adapted to extend downwardly in the shell l. The lower end of the'funnel 10 terminates in a sleeve 11 having the upper edges thereof soldered or lotherwise secured to the funnel 10 at u point removed from the lower end of said funnel. v y
Hinged or pivotally connected to the lower edge of the sleeve 11, as at 12 is a flap valve or door 13 lnormally retained in a closed -position upon the lower end of the sleeve 11 by a weight 14 suitably secured :to an outwardly extending arm 15, carried b the valve or door 13 adjacent to thehinge or pivotal connection thereof.
The outer wall of the sleeve 11 is provided With a hook or other support 16 for a sponge or piece of absorbent material 17 adapted to hold in suspension a disinfectant, deodorant or other solution or matter that will tend`to purify the contents of the gases or fumes that Imay arise from the contents of the shell 1, 'Y
Detachably mou'nted upon the upper edges of the -funnellO is an annular seat orfim 18 having the'n under side thereof cut away or provided with an annular recess 19 providing clearar ce for the extreme upper edges of the funnel 0. The rim, or seat 1'8 is providediwith depending diametrically opposed clamping members 18n havingr the lower ends thereof bent, as at 18" to engage under camshaped ribs 18 carried by the Walls of the collar 8, the rib upon one side of the collar having an inclination the reverse of the rib upon the opposite side, as' best shown i'n Fig. 1 of the drawing, whereby the clamping members 18* .can be easily swung into engagement with said ribs, The ribs 18 are positioned intermediate the bayonet-shaped slots 7. The upper edges of the seat or rim 1S are rounded and provided with an auular seat 20 for the peripheral edges 21 of a lid or cover 22, said lid or cover having a dependinav iiange or collar snugly fitting l" 'said hand in the seat or rim 18. :Thalia-0r com 22- 1s.,provided with ya central pivoted link or handle` 24 hel in place byV a rivet 25 having aneye26. :s 1 f The walls of the shell 1 are provided with .diar'netrically dis osed apertured bosses`27 for the ends 28 o 'a bail 29 having a handle 30. The shell 1 atthe' lower end thereof' and .directlyk beneath thel bosses 27 is provided with ingle foot piecesr31 and at a point between these'lo'ot pieces with a hand grip 32, 'ip, coperatng with the bail 29 in. facilitating the emptying of the contents of the receptacle.
`By placing the feet. lipon the foot pieces 31, the lid or cover 22' can be easily'removed when 'it is desired to use the receptacle, and .f
when the same -is to be cleansed; the lower mits of thesa'me bein a chair or withoutla c with the exceptionv 'of the rim or.` seat 18 which 'is made of H vV\TitneSses,: wood, is ,made of metall capable of withstanding considerable weight.
yWhat I claim isz* n v A sanitary receptacle comprising a shell having a closed bottom and an open top. a
.collar surrounding the upper portion of the shell and further projecting above the top a funnel extending over edge of the shell, the top edge of and depending into the shell, means for connectingthe top edge of the funnel tothe top edge of the collar, an annular member having a groove in its lower face for the reception of the top of thecol- .lar and funnel, vmeans carried by said'mem-y Y ber ,and detachably engaging with the collar in position,
for. maintaining the rim flanged cover mounted upon the top' and engaglng the inner face ofy said memberfu vertically disposed cylindrical'sleevev inclosf mg and connected to the lower portion `Aof Athe funnel, andvalvular means' for normally closing the inner end of the-sleeve.
In testimony whereof'I allx my signet-ure .i
in the presence of two witnesses.
