To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL S. KoRN- REICH, manufacturer, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Varren, in the county of Warren and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in suspenders, and has to do more particu larly with the finished suspender button end, the object being to utilize small pieces of leather in the manufacture of these ends, thus greatly reducing the initial cost of the finished article.

\Vith this object in View my invention consists in suspender button ends made in two pieces with a metal binding clip for rigidly securing these ends together, making in effect a suspender button end of a single piece as heretofore.

My invention further consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a view of the completed article; Fig. 2 is a view showing the two attached parts which compose the suspender button end when together; Fig. 3 is a view of the blank forming the binding clip; and Figs. 4 and 5 are sectional views through the binding clip in blank form and in the partly bent or struck up form.

A, A represent the detached button ends, and B is the binding clip. This is cut from a small piece of sheet metal preferably bent through the center into V-shape as shown at 1, and this V-shaped portion is slotted as at 2, 2 and the metal is bent inwardly from the ends of these slots to form spurs 3, 3, which are adapted to penetrate the leather forming the parts of the suspender button end. Likewise at the edges sharp teeth 5, 5 are formed which also penetrate the leather of the ends after the sides of the binding clip embrace the leather. Owing to the shape of the blank and the central spurs struck from the slots it will be seen that the spurs or teeth are the more readily and offectually made to penetrate the leather and to make a more rigid and secure fastening. In this way a very simple and effectual means is provided for utilizing a cheaper grade of leather because in small pieces although the quality may be just as good if not superior to that used in the ordinary manufacture of these suspender button ends. Without this metal binding clasp the leather composing button ends costs in the neighborhood of twenty (20) cents per pound, whereas the price of the leather from which these half ends, as it were, may be made and afterward joined by this binding clip, is in the neighborhood of five (5) or six (6) cents per pound, so that the utility of the device is beyond question. The metal binding clip becomes not only a binder but a reinforcing device at the point of greatest wear, thus greatly lengthening the life of the suspender ends.

It is evident that more or less slight changes might be resorted to in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention as defined by the appended claims, and hence I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction herein set forth, but

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination with suspender button ends made in two pieces, of a binding clip composed of sheet metal having spurs at the center and also at opposite edges adapted to penetrate the suspender ends when bound therearound, whereby to hold the parts together and serve to reinforce the suspender button ends at the point of support.

2. The combination with suspender button ends made in two parts, of a sheet metal binding clip having a V-shape bend through the center, said portion slotted, spurs struck up from the ends of the slots and teeth at the opposite ends of the plate, said binding clip adapted to be bent around the adjacent ends of the suspender button end pieces and caused to penetrate the material of which the latter is composed.
