AMBROSE J. FASENMYER, OF NEW BETHLEHEM, PENNSYLVANIA.
CUSPIDOR-CARRIER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Aimnosn J. FAsnNMYnR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Bethlehem, in the county of Clarion and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cuspidor-Carriers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a cuspidor carrier, and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device for gripping the funnel or mouth of a cuspidor to permit of the cuspidor being carried without contacting with the hands.
Briefly described, my carrier comprises two pivoted rods having flared gripping ends for engaging the funnel or mouth of a cuspidor or similar receptacle, and the opposite ends of the rods are connected to gether by links or chains, these links or chains serving as a handle when the cuspidor is carried. The gripping device in its entirety resembles a pair of tongs and is adapted to facilitate the work of janitor-s or persons handling cuspidors.
The detail construction entering into my invention will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings: Fi ure 1 is a perspective view of my carrier, Fig. 2 an elevation of the same illustrating the carrier provided with different gripping ends.
In the accompanying drawings, 1 designates two rods having their upper ends provided with eyelets 2 and their lower ends bent to provide gripping members for engaging the funnel or mouth 3 of the cuspidor. The rods 1 intermediate the ends thereof are flattened, as at 4-, and pivotally connected together, by a pin or rivet 5.
The eyelet-s 2 of the rods 1 are connected by a chain (3 to a couplingpiece 7, this coupling piece having eyelet ends 8 to which the chains 6 are connected.
The gripping members are referred to by the reference character 9, and each consists of a triangular-shaped portion which terminates in a rectangular portion, the rectangular portion is angularly disposed with respect to the triangular portion and the said rectangular portion is slightly curved Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 5, 1908.

so as to conform to the shape of the funnel or mouth of the cuspidor. The triangularshaped portion of one member is oppositely disposed with respect to the triangularshaped portion of the other member and each of the said members at the bottom of the triangular-shaped portion is stiffened and braced by a connecting rod 10.
The rods 1 are made of wire that canbe easily bent and the gripping members 9 are formed by bending the lower ends of the rods 1 upon themselves, after which the free end of the rod 1 is wound upon the rod above the gripping member as clearly shown in Fig. 1.
While in the drawings forming a part of this application there is illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention it is evident that the same can be varied or changed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new, is
A cuspidor carrier comprising a pair of rods extending in opposite directions and pivoted together intermediate the ends thereof, chains attached to the upper ends of said rods, a coupling piece connecting said chains together and constituting ahandle, each of said rods having its lower end bent upon itself and connected together to provide the lower end of each of said rods with a gripping member, each of said gripping members consisting of a triangular-shaped portion terminating at its bottom into a rectangular portion, said rectangular portion angularly disposed inwardly with respect to the triangular-shaped portion and further curved to conform to the mouth of the cuspidor and a curved brace rod at the top of each rectangular portion, constituting the top of the rectangular portion and adapted to stiffen the top of the rectangular portion and the lower end of the triangular-shaped portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
AMBROSE J. FASENMYER.
