Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RAYMOND DAUBAIGNAN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF OEE-HALF TO REGINALD H. LEAR, OF KIRKWOOD, MISSOURI.
SASH-FASTENER.
Patented sepal, 1908.
Application led August 8, 1906. Serial No. 329,654.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, RAYMOND DAUBAIG- NAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to improvements in sash fasteners, and the object of my invention is to construct a sash fastener for preventing the lower sash from being elevated or the upper sash from being lowered. Said device is so constructed that it may be applied to the upper window sash by means of two screws, without any cutting or mutilation of the sash.
To the above pur oses, my invention consists in certain novelfeatures of construction and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a front elevation of my invention with parts broken away applied to the window sash, portions of the upper and lower sash being broken away; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line2-2 of Fig. l showing the fastener closed, and Fig. 3 is asimilar view showing the fastener open.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawingsz-l indicates the upper sash and 2 the lower sash.
3 indicates the plate which carries my improved sash fastener, said plate being provided With counter-sunk holes 4, by means of which the same is attached to the sash by screws 5. Said plate is provided with an elongated recess 6, and near the top end thereof with semicircular bearing recesses 7. The lower end of said plate is also provided with a lip 8 and a recess 9.
I0 indicates the locking bolt, said locking bolt being provided on its front face with corrugations 1l and on its lower end with a reduced end 12 and a recess 13, and said locking bolt or plate 10 is adapted to fit into the o ening 6 and is a little shorter in length t an the length of said opening. Formed in the top end of said loclrin plate 10 are bearing lugs 14, which lugs are ocated in the semicircular recesses 7, said lugs being smaller than said recesses so that they may be vertically moved in the same a short distance. The top end of said bearing plate is rounded off a little at l5, and is adapted to strike .against the sash and limit the outer movement of the lower end of the locking plate 10.
16I indicates a spring, the lower end of which is secured beneath plate 3, the free end 17 of said spring bearing against the rear face or under side of the locking plate 10. The function of this spring is to thrust said locking plate 10 outwardly as shown in Fig. 3.
Secured to the top of the lower sash is a plate 18, provided with a lug or shoulder I9. This plate 18 is disposed immediately beneath the plate 3. The plate 3 is of a thickness as not to prevent the free movement of the sash when the locking bolt or plate l0 is closed.
In order to close the locking late I0, it is only necessary to press in an pull down on the same until the reduced end I2 of said locking plate is inserted beneath the lip 8 or in the recess 9. When in this position, the locking bolt or plate 10 is closed and the sash are free to pass each other.
When it is desired to unlock the locking plate 10 so as to lock the sash, it is only necessary to push up on the plate I0 and the spring 17 will push the lower end of said locking plate outwardly or in a position where it may be engaged by the plate 18, should it be attempted to elevate the lower sash or lower the top sash.
As shown in Fig. 3, my invention is illustrated as being in osition to lock the sash. Should an attempt e made to lower the top sash or elevate the lower sash, the lower end of the locking plate 10 will strike the plate I8.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
A sash fastener, comprising a plate adapted to be secured to the top sash of a window there being a vertically disposed slot forme in said plate and there being semi-circular recesses formed in said plate at the up er end of the slot, a locking plate arrange in the slot, andwhich locking plate is shorter than the slot, a lip and recess at the lower end of the locking plate ears integral with the sides of the locking plate and bearing in the semi-circular recesses, a lip and recess on the first mentioned plate at the lower end of the slot therein for engaging the lip and recess at the lower end of the looking plate name to this speeiiioation, in presence of two wlhen1 the samelis moyd downwardly through subscribing witnesses. t e s ot to its imit o movement, and a leaf V spring fixed to the lower end of the first men- RAYMOND DAUBAIGNAN' 5 tioned plate with its free end bearing against Witnesses:
the rear side of the locking plate. M. l?. SMITH,
In testimony whereof, I have signed my E. M. HARRINGTON.
